Default Forge A-Line DV & Snorkle Removal

Tonight I finally got around to getting my Forge Motorsports A-Line Diverter Valve in my bug. Took about 3 hours total for everything and about 10 minutes to actually replace the diverter valve. I never realized how much crap has to come out first in order to easily get the diverter valve out.

Anyways, while I was at it I took out my headlight, and fender liner and removed the snow box and the snorkle that leads to the actual intake box.

I am happy to say the removal of the snow box and such made an amazing improvement in the sound that comes from the intake. It actually has a little bit of a growl now. All thats left is to get a K&N drop in and I think I might actually be done with the intake all together after hearing how it sounds now.

The Forge DV has a nice little hiss to it, but not much louder than the factory one, which is ok I guess in the long run, but I was really hoping for more feedback from the DV. It came with a series of replaceable springs and I am not sure which one is for what since my DV didnt come with any instructions or anything. I am currently using the one that the DV ships with, but am thinking I might need to change it. It sorta feels like it's releasing too easily and not holding boost all the way through the rpm's and instead releasing a couple seconds before the rpm's max and the AT shifts. Has anyone else had any experience with the other springs from Forge...is there one that works better than the others for that sort of thing. The ones I have are all color coded and 4 to choose from.

Any suggestions?

Aside from that I am extremely happy with the results!

I just wanted to thank everyone on the forums seeing as how I got most of my guts to do this from posts that I have read on these forums. I also picked up most of the know-how I needed to get everything done without wasting countless hours trying to make sense of the layout of things.

P.S. - All this also got rid of the terrible feeling I got when the car would shift. It used to sort of jerk for a second or two in between shifts. It is now just as smooth as it should be, you almost dont even realize it is shifting anymore unless you watch the RPM's.

Just curious GGKauten, why would you remove the air intake duct that connects to the air box?

The reason why your Forge DV isn't really any louder than the stock one was is because aside from stifling the engines performance the factory air box acts like a muffler, if you get rid of the factory air box and replace it with a "properly setup" "quality CAI system", you will have a much louder woooosh from the DV along with better overall performance.

The two key portions of my last statement that will result in success are:

1. Quality CAI system.

2. Properly setup.

the factory air box will never out perform a CAI if the two afore mentioned ingredients are strictly adhered to, however if you are completely satified with what you now have then just ignore this recommendation.

Happy motoring....

Too Cold,

I completely agree that a quality CAI that is properly setup will out-do any modifications that can be done using the factory air box. This is a given.

I took the intake duct off because I was curious to see what performance I might be able to expect from the Neuspeed P-Flo intake that I was looking to get.

At this point I am sure I will end up getting the Neuspeed intake anyways, but for the time being it has an aggressive enough of a sound to keep me entertained.

Ah, I see, however this will not give an even close to accurate comparison to an actual CAI system not to mention that by removing the ducting to the stock air box will make it even less effective than it was in stock form.

1. The stock air box is inclosed and receives air from one small opening (Restrictive).

2. By removing the fresh air duct that normally carries cool air to the stock air box, you have now replaced cool air with unshielded warmer air.

You now have a restrictive air box that is being fed warm to hot unshielded engine bay air, this is not good.

With that duct in place you maintain the benefit of cool air being rushed into the stock air box but with a quality properly setup CAI, you have at least 360 degrees of surface area where air can be pulled in and with the air duct in place , the cool air coming in through it will displace the standing warm/hot air with cooler air which is a win win situation.

I have a K&N Extreme filter which makes this process even more effective, look at the position of the fresh air duct outlet in relations to my Extreme filter, if you're not familiar with the K&N Extreme, check out K&N's website for complete information.

Essentially I still have the same thing, I may not be sporting a brand name filter at the current point in time, but my intake still draws air from the exact same location that yours does, I just dont have a flimsy piece of heat soaked plastic delivering it from a dead end place in the bumper.

I understand where you are coming from, but forcing your thoughts on another is not exactly worth wasting forum space for. Stating your opinion, fine you have done this, and I have noted that this is a temporary setup.

Not to be an ass about this, but you stated your point, move on.

I have no desire to try and force my thoughts on anyone, such an attempt would not only be fruitless but virtually impossible, unless I were dealing with morons which I don't believe is the case here.

Although one person usually starts a thread, my replies are for the benefit of all.

A couple of days ago I asked the question as to why you chose to remove the air intake ducting that leads up to the air box in your car and today you supplied an answer, my response to your answer wasn't an attack on you or an attempt to try and tell you what or what not to do, I was simply stating the facts regarding your answer(s).

I have only laid out the facts regarding this thread as a courtesy to those that care to read my reply and maybe learn something, it is each individuals prerogative to either read someones responses or skip them all together but with all due respect, I couldn't careless one way or the other.

Happy motoring....
