Default R32 Steering Wheel

hi there,

Anyone installed a R32 Steering wheel on a Beetle? I see that HPA has a R32 wheel in their Beetle.

I have the follow Q's
1) Is it a direct bolt on?
2) Is the airbage plug and play?
3) Any airbag light?

thanks in advance

1) yes it will bolt right on as long as you are using the r32 airbag with the r32 wheel.

2) I am unsure but I have seen R32 wheels in a beetle so it is possible.

3) as long as the airbag is connected properly you should have no airbag light.

Yes, the R1 steering wheel (VW part #JNV 419 091)is a direct bolt on for the Beetle.

2) Is the airbage plug and play?
The airbag doesn't have to be an R32 airbag, any "Three Spoke Sport" airbag for/from a Jetta, Golf etc. will work with the R1 wheel and be plug and play on a Beetle.
3) Any airbag light?
No airbag light or fault codes should result if the airbag removal and installation procedures are strictly adhered to and as long as the airbag used is in proper working order and un damaged.

Just make sure to disconnect your battery before doing the wheel swap.

PS You're gonna love it!

As stated in my previous post, the airbag removal and installation procedure should be strictly adhered to, one of the first things stipulated in that procedure is to disconnect the battery prior to working on the airbag system.

If you carefully follow the Bentley service manual during this procedure, you should have no problems.

Enjoy!

Good luck finding one!! They're not easy to come by, and they're pretty expensive. Oh, how I would love to have one as well...

It's true that the R-Line wheel (FYI: Comes with connection harness) is a little costly but they are extremely nice wheels and not at all hard to find, I supplied the part number in my first response to this thread, with that you should be able to locate one through any VW dealer, Driver Gear dealer or on line at World Impex.

The real expense and difficulty might be in finding a "Three Spoke Sport Airbag" in mint condition without having to buy one new from a VW dealer at a cost of about $800 plus, you have to be very careful when buying one used because they often come all scratched up and/or damaged.

I was fortunate to get mine for under $300 off Ebay from a local seller and was able to pick it up in person and inspect it, the airbag was off a low mileage car, came with the harness and was in new like condition.

Good Luck.

I have an R32 steerign wheel swapped into my 2001 NB. It was all plug and play as long as you get a 3-spoke airbag with the wheel. I found mine on VW Vortex for a decent price as somebody was gutting an R32 into a racing project and had the wheel up for sale.

The hardest part of the install was removing my stock steering wheel. No matter how hard we tried, neither my friend (VW tech) or I could get enough leverage on the spring clamps that hold the steering wheel to the steering column to get them to budge and release the stock wheel. After a couple hours of trying we gave up and cut the sides out of the stock wheel so we had direct access to the spring clamps and were able to release them. Once released, and with the stock wheel removed, the R32 wheel installed in seconds. Of course, since this trashed the boot at the back of the stock wheel, the mod is irreversible. Hopefuly your stock wheel will be much easier to remove. I've seen it done in minutes but for some reason mine was very stubborn.

Default R-line steering wheel R32

from what i understand these steering wheels parts # JNV-419-091 can fit on pretty much any vw 3 spoke based steering wheel system. i got an 06 jetta tdi manual and i want to put in this steering wheel cuz it look good and feels good! vs the crappy cheap plastic stock steering wheel that might cause you eczema pr skin infections lol. does anyone have experience and confirm the fitment of this part on a jetta? any place cheap i can get one? also im thinking about putting in the 5 speed shifter knob from the r32 i think its art # JNV-711-113-D which may also fit in my car any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Please ask your question in a new thread Maroc.

Your question seems loosely related to the original, but the OPs question has already been answered... over 3 years ago.

Rather than revive a 3yr old thread, please start another which relates to your problem specifically.

Maroc: You'll need the steering wheel from a Mk5 GTI or R32 (same thing except for the aluminum filler plate) to put on your Jetta. The Mk4 wheel WILL NOT fit.

Also, the DSG shift knob from a GTI/R32 will not fit any other Mk5. The shifter mechanism is different and would need to be swapped to allow the knob to be changed to that style.

Default I'd like to change my Beetles wheel

I may start shopping for used replacement. I think my '02 Beetle's steering wheel is the least comfortable wheel I've handled. I like a simpler round or oval cross section, not the complex one of the stock NB, which only fits my grip when I steer with one hand, palm up and elbow on the armrest. The stock wheel is too big, too, making the steering too light and too slow. Does anyone seriously have trouble turning a steering wheel these days?

We do have the R32 steering wheel available, but as mentioned above, they are fairly expensive.

Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Interior > Steering Wheels

They do not include an airbag, but any airbag from a Mk4 3 spoke steering wheel will work. I had one of these in my Mk4 years ago and can say it is a very nice upgrade that you'll enjoy every time you are behind the wheel.

Just received a new wheel for the RUF BUG:

I have a MINT CONDITION TURBO S steering wheel complete w/Airbag for sale. I know it's not an R32, but thought I'd post up here as many people have inquired about these as well. You can find it here:

Easy for you to say, sittin' in South Beach!

Actually, I'm rather enjoying having it in my office, so I can play with it and hold it during the day.
