Increasing performance... exhaust or muffler?

I have a 2002 New Beetle 2.0. I'm despearate to increase the 'pep' and get the most bang for my buck. I'd like to use a VW part. They show the following parts on vw.com:

Performance Exhaust and Performance Muffler.

Can anyone make a recommendation between the two, and can anyone who HAS these items give me their feedback on them?

Get a Techtonics stainless exhaust (www.techtonicstuning.com) with a Borla muffler and that's your best bang for the buck. Looks stock, sounds nice, and should give you 5-10HP.

The VW parts are just sport mufflers designed for tone, not performance.

Thanks for the suggestion! Do you have this, and if so, what has your experience been?

Also, any ideas on a cold air intake? I'm interested in having that done as well.

I went for the VW Performance Exhaust. It was pretty cheap and it made the car faster, sound EXCELLENT and more fun to drive!!! new pics to come!
