Unhappy P L E A S E someone help me aim the headlights

This is pretty rediculous, people post asking how to do this over and over and no one knows how? there are two phillips/allen screw points on each headlight, one towards the inside of the engine well and one towards the top of the light. now one of these puppies must make the beam go up, and one must make it go down, one must make it go left, and one right. I've called VW corporate, and they refered me back to the dealer, who referred me to them in the first place. the stupid guide track that the idiot german designed to mount these lights is bar none the dumbest thing i've ever seen. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME OUT, WHICH ADJUSTMENT KNOB DOES WHAT, AND IS COUNTERCLOCKWISE UP OR DOWN, LEFT OR RIGHT??????

Thanks anyone and everyone!

You answered your own question, my friend! Line up your car with a closed garage door and just make the adjustments using trial and error as I did. If they are out of adjustment, you can't hurt things anymore than they are. I don't remember which screws do what...its been a couple years now, but make your adjustments when its dark and you have a reference point to work with (I used my garage door with some masking tape applied as a straight line reference). You can watch the headlight move as you make the adjustment. The reason VW won't tell you anything, is that adjusting headlights, technically, can only be made by a certified adjustment station, in order to conform to state laws. The adjustment process is simple simple simple! Use a vehicle side by side as a template if you need to.

Its in my manual. The top one moves it upward I believe and downward depending on how you turn it. the bottom one does side to side I think.

bentley only shows that the top one is for height and the side one is for lateral adjustment. Nothing about which way to turn it; so time for some trial and error. hope that helps

the one on top does up and down, counterclockwise = up
the one on the bottom does out and in, counterclockwise = in (center of car)

BTW: This is from memory, also, the top one isn't really truly up and down, the axis of movement isn't exactly vertical (I mean, when you aim it down, it also goes in). Let me know if this helps. BTW2: this is from memory. Good luck

Default Thanks for the help

My headlights have been aimed too low since the repair after hitting a deer. I read this thread last night, and was able to adjust them...Thank You all very much!

well it must just be mine because I have spun both of those allen screws thirty times in both directions and the beam never moved a thousandth of an inch.
