Default Funny you should ask, I've been monitoring my car with my new scangauge II!

In town driving, I'm usually around 190-200
When I spin up the turbo and cruise around 80-100mpg I am
usually around 220-240, never much over 240.
Turbos run hot, that's why you need to run 100% antifreeze and
run synthetic oil.

240 is getting a little too warm, are you using the stock thermostat? If not, which aftermarket brand are you using?

Straight water cools an engine far more effectively than anti-freeze whether mixed or in pure form, however using straight water in todays cooling systems is as unacceptable and ill-advised as using straight anti-freeze for a number of reasons, word of advise, always use a 50/50 mix of water and (only)>> VW/Audi G12 coolant in these cars.

I agree with you on the synthetic oil, this is a must.

Isn't the Wahler an 87 C thermostat like the stock Behr?

What are you trying to achieve with this swap? Is the Wahler just a better quality part or is there another Wahler that runs cooler?

This thread isn't about me personally using one or the other, I am simply looking for feed back from those that have chosen to use a stock temperature rated Wahler brand thermostat as appose to the OEM unit.

I'd like to know what Wahler thermostat users (primarily 1.8t owners) have experienced in terms of typical running temperature ranges from day to day.

No one out there is running a Wahler thermostat eh? Uhmmm, I guess Wahler must be close to going out of business due to lack of sales.
