Vag-com is just about the only way to get rid of it. I thought I could clear out codes by unhooking my battery overnight, I couldn't have been more wrong.

You can disconnect your battery for 15 minutes to erase the code, but it will come back.
Do this mod to the rear O2 sensor and you'll be fine http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1366095&page=1 Worked for me ![]()

Awesome information I'll be installing spark plug arrestors on my rear o2 sensor tomorrow! I can't stand that nonsense light that tricks you into thinking something might actually be wrong. Still love the sound of my new 3" SS GHL turboback though! Wouldn't trade it for anything!

A scan tool will reset the ECU erasing "All" codes stored in a given location as well as turning off the CEL, however if the problem(s) still exist, the CEL and fault code(s) will return.
Disconnecting the battery in order to remove DTC's from the ECU is not a good approach, this method will actually leave a low voltage fault code in the ECU, it may kill the CEL but many times will still leave the original DTC's in the ECU. Also, this may become an issue for those going in for a smog check, when the technician plugs into the diagnostic port and finds that low voltage fault code from when you unplugged the battery, he may fail you. For those of you without a scan tool >> Suggestion: Do it right, get a scan tool.

Hi, I recommend doing the mod first becaus3e you will be resetting the ECU constantly. I've got a scangauge and I like it. Not only does it pickup scancodes, but it also displays volts, rpms, gph, mpg, water temp, air temp , air pressure, LOD ,
I'd like to get info from the MAP but it looks like the ECU doesn't send that out in realtime, if it did that would be a cool way of looking at the turbo boost. Anyway I like it ,it hooks up the the ODBCII connector and I attached it just underneath the seat warmer controls. defentitely do the mod. |
