Talking 01M has a sense of humor lol!!!

This morning i received my new filter-gasket and fliud and changed everything.

My car is a NB 2000 2.0 with 70,000 miles, although i think an earlier change could have helped. When i drained the fluid it was dark black and very dirty, no debris thankfully, but i did notice that the pan magnet had collected a lot of stuff. Here are some pics:

This is a very clean pan, in which i gave it a lot of attention. (hope i didnt leave soap in it LOL!)

Here is the old VS New filter, when i cleaned the inside of the old filter blobs of grease or oil like substance came out. This is by no means re-usable like some say. The filter inside which is made out of paper is very clogged by "chunks" or "Jellow" of old fluid.

Then finally i found out that the germans have a sense of humor, if you look carefully you will see that they have the text: "LOL" embeded in the valve body.

I hope this is not your fluid.. How can VW say its "LIFE-TIME"?? this fluid starts yellow and very bright. After 70,000 it is black and very dirty. Yuck!!

After finishing this process i now feel very relieved and now that i think of it. Its not too bad

If you try it, take your time, be careful and follow step by step. Also Vag-com is good to have handy you can buy a cable on Ebay for 30.00 and you get a demo which lets you check the temp.

I remember that picture...frightening to say the least...I need to do this. How much did it cost? How much time?

I was the one that asked if the filter may be reusable as filters on other transmissions that only have a metal mesh screen. Since I changed the fluid in my car, I find the filter is a media filter and not reusable. However, the gasket is reusable.

For reference, this is what I paid from germanautoparts.com:
$14.55 filter
$9.92 gasket
The two were sold separately.

I think this is the tutorial you're looking for:

"How-To" Change Auto Transmission Fluid

This should be done every 40K to 60K or so.
