Default manual transmission fluid change

k so my friend has a new bug. he has problems shifting and i recommended replacing his manual transmission oil fluid and rear diff fluid. Brand i recommend is redline for MT. however upon looking at this forum i see that no one has any info on changing this. any replies would be much appreciated. if anyone can also supply pics of the bolts to undo on the tranny. and the diff. has anyone done this... i have done this to many cars and the shifting is so much smoother. i just dont wanna get under his bug (ive never worked on a bug) and have any suprises.

Well, the Transmission forum just doesn't get frequented.

So you were able to get the fluid changed out? Good! I know it's a little difficult due to no real fill neck, but it's doable. I need to change it in my '00...

I'd like to know what oil you used and whether there is any real measurable difference to be had.
When I saw your post I did a search on this forum to find the link for you but to no avail - then considered copying the section on the gearbox oilchange from the Haynes manual...so the thought was there!!! just a bit too lazy.

There is a socket head hex plug (I think its 17mm, somebody correct me if wrong) on the side of the transmission this is where you fill it, there is another hex plug on bottom to drain. Should take little over a quart, basicaly you fill it till the level comes up to the bottom of the fill hole.
