DSG DIY fluid change post

I noticed that no one had attempted to post directions or pics of how one could avoid the approx $400 maintenance every 40k.

So I have decided to begin such a post in an effort to aid anyone looking into if it's possible to do this themselves. My research has determined that if you are capable of changing your own oil, then you can do this too.

One pic. I would like to share is what appears to be a knock off filler tube that I have heard cost anywhere from 90 - 150 bucks..

This tool looks easy to duplicate, just need to know what kind of attachment it needs for the tranny side. otherwise, a funnel and some vinyl tubing is all one needs to not make a mess. It's also possible that tubing of the correct size may just slide down inside the filler neck.

As for needing the VAG COM for the temperature check. The range for checking it is around 100 F. Anyone who has kids knows that 100F is a hair warmer than you want a childs bath to be. So after you fill the tranny, wait till the fluid gets to that point by keeping your hand on the pan. If it gets to hot to hold, it's too warm, or if it feels cold, too cold. I can't believe that some are so worried about using a vag com when the range says 25-35 deg. C. Maybe the older auto's require a specific temp, but a 20 degree F range is a lot to play with. Remember, DSG has no valves, or TC to take up a lot of fluid while running, so its more like a manual. Drain and fill. Remember, you are supposed to check your engine oil warm too, I don't see anyone pulling out their VAG-COM to do that

I actually see this as a very easy process, and I hope others will join in either sharing stories of success, or what they have done in preparation of it. There are some people that say 40k is too long to wait, and I tend to agree so I want to be able to do this more frequently and more cost effective. After seeing what VW did to other with their "lifetime" crap, I tend to rely on being over protective, than worrysome.

Why would you want to flush the tranny fluid anyway?

I thought it was lifetime fluid, and even with skepticism on that length of a life period, you wouldnt need to change it for many years?

Think again about DSG engineering. Remeber when VW sold it's "lifetime" tranny fluid marketing ploy? People were buying a vehicle that VW knew the fluid would easily last past the warranty stage and people rarely kept vehicles past 100k.

Well... they tried it again, this time with DSG then said... oops.. ya this stuff breaks down especially since there is a clutch which creates heat.

All the while, this technology already existed in the high tech world, and they said 20k is probably a safer bet for fluid changes.

Now, I'm not about to go throwing money out the window, but I don't trust VW about any of their "schedules"

And with a DSG you don't "flush the tranny.. you drain, or drop the pan(s) then replace filter and refill. very similar to an oil change. Only drawback so far is the price of the fluid and the cost of the filter. but it needs to be done, and if you own a DSG and don't do it.. don't start bashing VW cuz you neglected an important service.

Point of this being anyone who drives a VW and thinks that there is anything "lifetime" is a fool that should be riding a bike.

Well i knew it wasnt going to last a lifetime, it just makes more money for the company...So ill keep my bike in the garage.

However i was hoping it would last more than 20k miles. I've had my car for 7 and a half month, and im at 19,300 miles. That means in about two or three weeks ill be changing my tranny fluid already? Thats ridiculous!
