Cool Confused transmission

My Beetle is giving me grief, again. This time the error that I am seeing, is that the computer does not know what gear the transmission is in. The error reads something like PND321 input error. The service manual states that the PND relay could be bad, or the transmission position switch, etc. Has anyone experienced this?

When the is running, do you see the gear selector lights on (down by the shift lever)?

Default Still confused, and so is the Beetle....

The Beetle will not even try to start. But I have not noticed if the lights come on by the shifter. I will check that when I get home tonight. But on the dash display, all gears are high-lighted???? I think either the Transmission Range Sensor, or the Transmission controll module could be the culprit, but how to decide???

Unhappy transmission ok; display not

I had a display on the speedo show all the gears highlighted; the transmission was shifting ok. I stopped the engine and restarted at a red light and the problem went away.

Manual shift: The shifter would not show the shifter was in the manual select sometimes and I was not able to shift manually.

I suspect the shift lever position indicator/switch.

I will update.

So how about that update? My display is doing the same thing. Happens every couple of days. I'm going down the highway in D, and I look and all of the gears have boxes around them. The VW is driving fine in auto, even when coming to a stop, but you cannot go into the manual shift mode. You can push the stick over, but it will not go up or down in gear. I then proceed to shut off the ignition and turn it back on and the problem is gone. What gives??? What is the fix?

Any fix on this as this seems to pop up on a couple of other threads but gets no further. Thanks!

I'll add myself to this list. I'm going to do a deep search for the issue next.
