Default 2.0 Gas New Beetle won't shift to 4th

Hi,

We recently moved from the USA to Europe and took our automatic 2.0 beetle with us. It sat idle from March this year until a few days ago. We have noticed in the course of a few drives that the car is not shifting to 4th. It will shift from 1-2-3 but remains in 3rd even at high speeds.

Is there anything I can do or check before taking the car to a mechanic?
