Default auto tranny problem in 2001 NB turbo - HELP!

Hey all,

2001 NB turbo with 62k miles on it. I am not the original owner so I can't take it back to VW (or can I?) isnt it 100,000 miles but you have to be 1st owner?

anyhoo... when I going up an incline or hill the car will shift into 2nd or 3rd then before it shifts again it'll rev real high then slam into gear.

now just to get into from 2nd to 3rd I have to rev up to 5000rpm or speed up and let my foot off the brake and then it'll slam into gear. It won't even reach the top gear now no matter how fast I drive. I'm driving at 65 mph at 4000rpm.

Any thought?

If I have to replace the tranny can anyone suggest where i can get a used or rebuilt tranny in the western Maryland or DC/Baltimore areas?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Moon

I hate to say it, but your 01M(auto trans) is toast. I don't want to tell you what it costs because you will be sick.

Ditto, start looking into a manual tranny. You will literally toss your cookies when you find how much it'll cost to purchase (new OR used) and install the auto tranny. At this point, the tranny replace and install would probably be more than half of what your car is worth!!! I don't like to drive sticks, but when mine goes...I'll have to learn to control my ADD and focus on driving with my right hand and left foot....

Yup. This guy has what you need:

A few other misc parts would be needed, clutch pedal etc etc.

It's a job, but it can be done. Any good VW mechanic with a brain should be able to do it. Parts and labor should be less than the cost of another auto trans from VW.
