Instead of shifting at around 2.5k to 3k rpm in standard mode, sport mode shifts arount 3.5 to 4k rpm. To put the car in standard mode, turn the car on (but not the engine on) and floor the accelerator for five seconds, then restart the car. For sport mode, floor the accelerator for five seconds twice before restarting the car.

Incorrect.

To reset TCU (trans control unit. AKA: fuzzy logic):
(a) ignition key on
(b) depress accelerator right to floor until you feel a click, hold for 10 seconds
(c) release accelerator (foot off) and turn key to start car whilst foot off accelerator pedal
TCU is NOW reset

If you want TCU to force "sport" mode, then after step (b) click the pedal twice, then proceed to step (c)

This can also be done via VCDS (formerly known as VAG-COM)

Is that a good thing? Any Lincoln (any Ford product for that matter) I know of with an auto trans...they all shift like mushy crap. The only good "auto" trans I've ever driven are some of the old GM Turbo 350's and their later variants, Chrysler Autostick in the Magnum's and 300's, Allison transmissions in the GM HD trucks, and VW's DSG. The 01M is a huge craptastic piece of fail...I know because I own one. As soon as possible it is going to the scrapyard when I swap it for a real transmission.

Default Reset All?

Is this true? I read in another forum that the trans could be reset by removing both battery cables and shorting them together.

Sounded too good to be true.
I live on Saipan (USPS zip code 96950) and can not get the software and cable mailed here to do all the resets and read codes for my 2003 NB 2.0l w/Auto.

I would rather have a ford trans in my vw than the junk that is in there now , fords just keep running , look at all the police cars in this country they dont have trouble and the new mustang GT500 auto from shelby is the fastest car now made in the 1/4 mile.
