Unhappy Trouble Shifting into 5th Gear! Help

Hello everyone, i need help figuring out what to do in order to get my 5th gear back to normal. All of my other gears are good when i shift besides 5th. When i attempt to shift into 5th it goes into place but it does not engage.
I tried messing around with shifting rods right below the intake, (air cleaner) but that just messes up all the rest of the gears when shifting. help please!!

Hrm, I wish the problem was 1st instead of 5th.

I'd like to see you try to to put it in 5th gear using the shift-linkage weight on top of the transmission. Get it into position and see if it "works". But to test that, well; it's REALLY HARD to start moving in 5th gear from a stop. ... so I'm not sure what to do next.

I'm inclined to think the problem is the side-to-side linkage only. And maybe it just needs adjustment. It shouldn't mess up all the other gears, only R, 1, and 2 if any.

The problem MAY be internal if you can't fix it w/the adjustment cables.

Or maybe it's just that linkage connection itself that is the problem....

Follow the proper adjustment procedure found near the bottom of this link:
Sigma 5 Install Manual

How is your fluid level? Has it been changed ever? 5th gear runs outside of the deeper part of the case and is the first to be damaged if fluid is allowed to drop below the proper level.

Linkage adjustment doesn't really require disassembly, go through the process that I linked you to.

Inspect the linkages for any excessive play due to worn/broken parts. Particularly on the side-to-side linkage, sounds like the cable might be loosing some of its "reach" to get into 5th. Have a helper shift through the gears as you watch the linkages.

And if you're over 100k miles, change your fluid!

2 liters is the dry fill capacity, so a little less than 2 will fill it up. Some people like Redline MTL, but I would probably stick with the VW G52 or new G70.

Drain plug is on the bottom, fill plug is on the front side. 17mm allen. 18 ft-lbs on the plugs, aka "guttentight" with a 3/8 ratchet.
