Default EXTREMELY hard shifting...possible tranny problem?

My automatic 99 shifts extremely hard, pretty much into every gear. When it shifts, it ranges from a little lag to a full out jolt of the car. It worries me...my car is my baby and I'm really hoping it's not anything too serious.

Have any of you ever experienced this? Does anyone know the possible problem?

The problem is that the transmission is failing. Sorry.

Replace it ($$$$$) or swap it for a 5 speed.

Know how to drive a manual? Mine does the same thing. Grinds on 1-2 shift sometimes too.

I'm just waiting for it to go out. And also along the same topic, what exactly happens when it does fail.

Y'know, it's funny: I thought "another one bites the dust" when I saw the title of this thread.

It's weird though, it only does it sometimes, like today it didn't do it once...but days ago it did it every time it shifted for days on end. I was thinking I need to check fluids maybe? When I took it in they said nothing was wrong..

IMHO, you're only delaying the inevitable. These VW slushboxes are well-known for being crappy; you should probably just be happy yours lasted as long as it did.
