Default Axle flange bolt tool size

I have a 98 Bug with an auto trans . Both of the axle seals are leaking , along with the pan gasket . The pan gasket is straight forward enough , but I have a question about replacing the axle seals . The axles are held onto the flanges by six of the `triple square`bolts . I don`t have that bit , but will buy it the next time my Mac tool dealer comes around . I need to know what size is that bit . I haved a haynes manual , but it doesn`t say what size is needed . Can anybody help me out and let me know the size of the bit? It would be greatly appreciated . Thanks .

the 2.0/tdi manual axles use 8mm, i think everything else is 10mm. i just bought the 6-12 set from autozone that slides into a 1/2" socket. works well if you hammer them in first.

Also, the nut holding the axle to the hub is a 12-point nut. IIRC it's a 30mm nut.

If its a 12 point 30mm , then I already have that . Maybe I should just pick up a set as well , if its not too expensive . I would want to spend a lot of money and not use most of the set .

Well, the only thing id reccomend picking up the whole set of triple squares for is if your gonna do clutch work or removing the head. If neither of those is something your ever gonna do, then just get a single triple square bit

So my Mac dealer is bringing me the socket tomorrow . Now , my next question . When I drop the pan , how much fluid should it take to refill . I need to now so I can have the proper amount on hand before doing the work .
