what year shifter will interchange ?

I have an 05 beetle 2.0 6sp auto. Need a new shifter because one of the magnets fell off for the tiptronic. New one is
$500+++ Found a used one on ebay from a 98. Wondering if that will interchange

No it will not. No tiptronic transmissions were available until 2003. The 04-06 TDI cars had the DSG, but I'm not sure if those shifters are compatible or not.

If you can find the magnet you can just glue it back into place.
