picked up a 2003 beetle convertible for niece. has the dreaded 6 speed auto issues, so I will be getting it straight for her.
I drove the car home and it ran well has the 2.0 engine with a 6 speed auto tranny. car runs ok for first 15 minutes then tach shot up to 6000 rpms when i looked down and went into limp mode. switched it over to triptronic mode and it was in 3rd or 4th i dont remeber. wouldnt shift form there. stopped about 30 miles into our 60 mile trip and got gas when I got back in I ran it in trip mode and had no issues just got it into 5th for the rest of the ride. So I have vag com and work in the auto industry. I have had many vw's so look forward to getting this one figured out with some help from the tranny gurus. Ill run some codes and get back with what i find and then drive it a little more to get some more info on the issues. Anyone know what parameters in vag com I should be focusing on at first in the tranny area to diagnose thanks for help |

Have you tried simply resetting it to re "learn" driving styles? Oh, i wouldn't say the 6speed auto has dreaded tranny problems.... To my knowledge, its vastly improved over the 01M 4 speed automatic it has replaced

had random cylinder misfires on engine
tranny codes as follows p0734 gear 4 incorrect ratio 00453 function limit due to overtemp 00641 atf temperature upper limit exceeded looks like fluid got to hot from the p0734 code most likely. I know valve body could be likely going bad. I alos read something about a sleeve that can spin near the k2 clutch pack was wondering if this could be causing my issue. The tranny seems to work fine in manual mode or in auto mode for the first 10 or 15 minutes. well thats all for now till I get some more time to run it and see the exact symptoms. |

When the cylinders misfire, the engine goes into limp mode which will mess with the ECU, and it will not allow you to pass a certain speed!
