Default 01M final drive gasket part number

Anyone know what the part number is for the 01M final drive gasket? I want to change my final drive oil.

Vagcat is dead and search has yielded nothing.

The only way to change the final drive fluid is to suck it out the top (through the speedo sensor hole) with an oil extractor. Then refill as directed.

According to an 01m trans guruon the vortex there's two ways to do it.

The suck out method and the remove the final drive cover method.

I replaced the final drive oil last October. Bought the gasket from the dealer. They'll find the correct part for you... no need to know part #.

It's impossible to remove the speedo gear sensor in the NB (unlike Golfs/Jettas). The turbo inlet pipe is in the way. Another Vortex'er reported the same problem. Eventually, I removed the pan and drilled a hole for refilling new oil. Originally, I had planned to have a nut welded to the inside surface of the pan and use a bolt with a thick rubber washer to seal the hole. Ran out of time so I just stuck one of those expandable rubber plug (used for stripped oil pan) into the hole and it's been fine. The hole sits much higher the oil level. I check for leaks at every oil change (7500 miles). There's minor seepage... but no leaks. The hole also makes for easy checking. I've not added oil in the last year (14k). I might weld a nut as originally intended if I ever replace the fluid again.

Btw, to remove the pan, I had to unhinge the sway bar and rotate it because it blocks access to 3-4 bolts.

I delayed doing a fluid change for years because I couldn't remove the speedo gear/sensor. When I did it at 161k, 50% of the fluid was gone but the gears look fine and the old fluid didn't smell burnt. My guess is VW took 'evaporation' into account.

01M tranny at 175k... and counting.
