Default Moan from front wheels when parking lot turning?

When I am at a stop and cut my wheels to back out of a parking place or pull into one I hear a not so loud moan that sounds like it is coming from the front wheels. Soon as I straighten out it goes away. Steering must be pretty sharp for it to happen.

It doesn't do it if I'm rolling in neutral or with clutch depressed - only when I'm fully in 1st gear and pulling out with the wheels cut hard to pull into traffic, and other similar parking lot maneuvers.

It doesnt do it once at speed around curves and whatnot I recon because I dont have to cut the wheel sharp.

Any ideas? I'm used to a power steering system to make some noise when its forced into a sharp parking lot maneuver but this noise only happens in gear and fully off the clutch.

I don't know much about cars so don't stand only by my word but when my struts were bad in my Saturn they made a moaning/grinding sound making sharp turns (in and out of parking spaces and turning into driveways) but never really as I was turning onto streets.

On my red TS, the 2003, this drove me crazy. I had it at the dealer several times, and finally a tech was able to replicate it. Nothing in particular was found.

They replaced the CV joint and boot, struts, and even the rack and pinion steering, (ALL under warranty! )and still the noise was there.

I finally just gave up. The noise was still there, but not as bad.

Yeah, its not all that loud but is present but doesn't bother me that much. Its there only as I cut the wheel hard to back out of my driveway or pull into it and then vanishes. If it did it during every turn on the road I might be more annoyed.

I was just worried it was telling me something bad is soon to occur if I didn't have it looked at.

I get that on ocassion. Its happened more or less since I got the car (44k miles and 5 1/2 years ago). Very slow speeds and turning really hard I get the moaning sometimes. Maybe check your power steering fluid? Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much. How many miles on the car?

77k. I would think it would be power steering related except that it only does it when in gear turning. If I coast into my driveway it wont do it. If I push in my clutch mid turn the sound vanishes.

Only does it when making the turn in gear and not pressing the clutch.

Wife's 2000 1.8T 5-speed does it too. Going straight or turning and at very low speeds. I'm suspecting brake drag but the pads and rotors are new. Still suspecting brake drag though because the car did not do this until after the pads and rotors were replaced.
