Am I supposed to pull the codes out of my a$$? Or would you like to share them with us?

Very nice! He just bought the car last week, he is new to NB's and new to the forum, I don't think he has a clue as to how to get codes nor does he own a code reader.
Eric I think you should take it to a tranny shop or a VW dealer before anything else is damaged or it gets worse. Check the stuff I emailed you about for starters (service history) and find out. I assume you knew about this when you bought it last week and got a good deal out of it, if not all I can say is ouch and get it diagnosed.

Keep us posted and good luck!

Most of the time, transmission related codes will not trigger a CEL. Most OBDII scanners can't communicate very well with the TCM, if at all. You need VCDS. rosstech.com

The search function is a beautiful thing, as is Google.

True, but it was mostly said in jest. I just get a bit annoyed when people ask questions like this and give so little info. If you are going to ask a question, at least try to help the person you are asking to help you.

I'm not really an a$$hole, I just play one on the internets.

If you really knew me, I am plenty humble. I just get in a hurry sometimes, like when I'm just checking the forums before work, and sometimes I'm a little testy if I haven't had my coffee yet. I also like to lip off a little now and then, its all good-natured...I just don't do a very good job at sugar-coating things.

If you don't like it, don't read it.

It's okay Buddy, we know, we all do it, J.Arce included. We just need to be a little more tactful (I'm guilty too) with Newbie's until they "get this".

before you read the TCM, you could try checking the transaxle fluid. there's a dipstick for it. it's e-z to check. if its low, that could be your problem.

Yes you can. Dealer says "lifetime" but no fluid should be anywhere in a car for 10+ years. To do the job correctly, I believe you'll need access to VAG-COM.
