Default Nubz at the Hospital...

@51,000 miles

Nothing bad - just found a highly reputable shop to do the ATF service, drop the pan, replace the filter, and replace the pan gasket.

Total: $260.00

They already knew about the oh-so-prevalent valve body failures in VW/Audi automatic transmissions and said that they see a lot of people who drank the "Lifetime ATF" Kool-Aid until their transmission died.

They seemed like genuine people (family business) so I do feel they have Nubz' best interests in-mind.

The fluid had some very fine particulates in it which were basically sanding the valve body every time the fluid went-by.

They said my valve body was showing some VERY early signs of abnormal wear, but that it was not bad enough to warrant immediate replacement. They said the new/clean fluid should stop the abnormal wear, and now that Nubz is in their system they can make a note and take a look when I come in for my next fluid change in 30-40k miles.

I'll have more information when I pick up Nubz later tonight... but I would really recommend that EVERYONE with the 09G 6-Speed Tiptronic change their ATF even if they haven't received that pesky letter from VW (I haven't received mine yet).

Thumbs up Pay attention to your warranty period. Period!

Just watch your warranty time very closely. Looks like mileage will click out long before time. There has already been damage done, and once it's out of warranty, it's out of warranty. Make sure you have written documentation from "your" shop as to what was found.

P.S. - I think that was a reasonable charge, I'm sure your going to hear from other SoCalians wanting the name of your shop! lol

Rats!!! Wished I lived closer. I woulda done it for a pizza and a cold drink. I guess 260.00 ain't bad for parts and labor.

Here's to many more happy miles with Nubz

Not bad at all compared to the dealers $520 (by me)
I just got the letter today via the PO since I didn't send the change of owner card to VWA. Mine is fine so far but I need to find out about the first service date so I can figure out the 7 year limit, I don't think I'll be able to put 77 thousand miles on her before the year ends.

Aw, thanks for the support, Buddy! And all this from my "Friends"! WTF! And careful about that '84 and on thing. I figure my '01 Vette Rag (9k miles) will have that status, in, oh, another 40 years or so. Seen the values on the used ZR1s? Above list, new!

I was referring to the Camaro when it comes to the "84 and on" thing. Wasn't too big of a fan of the Camaro when the went to the wedge design. Glad to see the ol girl (retro design) back.

It's great that most of feel the vibe of this place and we can razz one another in good fun

I guess we better get back on topic huh

So how is Nubz doing BTW?

Judee never came back on with an update. Bet the Dealership is keepin' Nubz warm over the weekend! (lol)

I don't particularly like being anywhere that doesn't offer a certain degree of fun!

And most OPers seem to take our f'ing up their threads a little bit, all in stride. TG! Maybe even get a little laugh!

Yeah, we're a goofy bunch. I'm not as bad as I use to be as far as going off topic is concerned- I try to stick to the org rules as best as I can, especially that i'm on of the older (as in membership) orgers

Oh, no worries. I was really busy this past weekend.

After the ATF service, the transmission feels much "tighter" now. I don't know how else to describe it.

Pressing the throttle results in instantaneous thrust without any lag. Before the service, when driving around in 1st or 2nd, it sounded almost like Nubz was a manual, where the revs would rise and fall as the clutch engaged. Now Nubz sounds like an automatic again.

I forgot to ask the shop to save a vial of the ATF for photographic purposes... but he said that while it wasn't as dirty/gritty as "Lifetime ATF" that he's removed from other cars, it wasn't clean either.

AWESOME Judee!
Cup feels like she has a whole new attitude too since i did her transmission service.

Cool idea of the vial of fulid. I still have Cup's fluid in a jug in the garage- I just might have to keep a vial for posterity's sake.

Hi Judee
