Default Just read the letter from VW

So, a small transmission shop near my house has had my NBC with the auto transmission problems for the past 4 months. They are almost done, to where they were test driving it today, and it's KILLING me waiting for it, but they also replaced the solenoid or something. We haven't heard back from her today though, so it's really depressing, and all I want is my beetle back to drive back to college.

I know that they tried rebuilding the valve body or something, and we still have to pay her about 3K for everything that she replaced and their work, but i just read the letter about the extended warranty on automatics for replacing the valve body.
Any suggestions on what I should do??

Thumbs up

Yes, if it would have been covered under the extended warranty, there is a form for claims, if the work was done elsewhere. Do you have the form? I believe it should be with the letter. I going to find it and see what it says exactly regarding subsequent damage done by the warranted part failure. Have the shop that has done the warranty work, document eveything, very, very, detailed, including anything they feel may have been caused by the failure of the valve body. Your going to have a claim, for at least a portion of the repairs.

At least you have that option.....mine didn't. I have a '03 Turbo 6 speed auto with the lovely valve body problem. It has only 70,000 miles on it, awesome powder blue with black top, and the powerful turbo. Anyway, mine was put "into service" on July '03 (one of the last '03 verts). They extended the "warranty" from December '03 on. What was the freaking point of sending me the letter if it didn't even cover mine, which also ticks me off.
I love the Beetles, don't get me wrong, but step up and take responsiblity if the car is still low miles and fix the problem. Just for the record, this Beetle is our 13th Beetle we've owned. First Convertable, first 6 speed automatic, first problem child. I complained to VWAG corporate but I don't think it's gonna do any good.

Thumbs down same thing here

Same issue for my sister. 03 beetle placed into service in march of 03 so VW says oh well your out of the extended warranty anyhow. Why send a freakin letter just to rub salt in a wound. VW is getting a way with a lot of issues that are flying under the radar. Last time I was burned on our 2005 Passat TDI with the bad balance shaft they would take no responsibility for either!!
Time to move on to anather reliable brand of car for my family!

I fully agree...time to move to another more reliable brand. My daughter's has been nothing but PROBLEMS. I just cannot believe these cars are as popular as they are, with all the problems!!

Question

Actually, they are not ALL that popular, sales had been very soft for a number of years because of many, many drive train, electrical, and trim issues. That is why the model run came to an end. If you could find production figures for the NBs they would bear this out, when compared to the competition. But you can't!

Owning a NB once out of bumper to bumper warranty is the true definition of Unconditional Love!

What I find interesting is that two icon revivals, vw beetle and mini cooper share a lot of problems like transmission (though the mini has had problems with both auto and manual) window regulators, electronics, etc. even 5 and 6 years into production.
One is Mexican, the other one in the UK. What a heck? Is it so hard to produce a better quality car?
Maybe they should pay Toyota to build the new gen. Beetle

J... the English have had major electrical problems with every car line ever produced in the UK. LMAO

And you can't build a full featured car, and sell it at a bare bones car price, and not cut corners, all the wrong ones. Toyota doesn't, Honda doesn't, Hyundai doesn't, Ford doesn't and GM doesn't. Really, totally, easy to understand. Pure economics.
