no 4th gear

My wife has a 2001 Beetle 2.0L automatic check engine light is on won't shift into 4th gear I replaced the G38 & G68 speed sensors still has same problem car has 74000 mi when i was unplugging the G38 sensor the wires pulled out , red and green wires, i took the plugin apart and sodered them back but was unsure of which side was red and which was green,i put the red wire in the plug side closes to engine,if anyone has a picture of that plug in or knows which side they go on would be a help also wondered if codes need to be cleared for the repairs to work and make check engine light go out and how do i clear them

buy a code reader it clears the code too. it much cheaper to do it your self hope this helped
