OK had a glitch today, actually it was several weeks ago. When I performed the Master Cylinder replacement, I made a mistake, I moved the brake pedal so I could get a better angle on the clutch pedal bolt. When I pressed the brake pedal a fine mist of brake fluid sprayed the side of the cylinder head soaking the water flange and hoses. Come to find out the (mineral oil) brake fluid softens the rubber, makes it swell and then it deteriorates.

I have decided to replace these two lower hoses (one of which is actually two hoses) on the water flange before putting the new clutch in.

Drained and replaced the Transmission Oil today. It looked like dark tea or medium dark coffee.

OK I have the replacement hoses for the Masted Cylinder mistake that I made. I was surprised to see how clean the coolant was and it looks florescent in the pic. The turbo coolant hose (short S) is the worst; I took two pics of each, what they looked like when I took the off and after I cleaned them up. VW Brake Fluid causes rubber to swell and deteriorate, which is visible in the pics.

This weekend I will be putting the new hoses on and finish installing the clutch.

OK, the new hoses are installed and I also went ahead and replaced the oil cooler o-ring.

The new clutch is also installed; so next weekend the transmission gets re-installed!

Got the transmission back on yesterday! It only took four of us to do it!

Got the transmission back off this weekend; I had reviewed my notes on the work I have done so far and I only torqued the flywheel bolts to 30Nm and they should have been torqued to 60 Nm... Lets just say that I did not read the last line, at the bottom of the last page of the manual.

So the all important questions is; will I be able to finish up this project without making another mistake this weekend?

Lets just say that this project is turning into my Nemesis and I still have to clean up the gear oil under the car. My neighbor heard my and brought over some beer.

Yep, its all good; my frustration is with the outside help needed, good help is so hard to get.

Anyway, the transmission is almost back on; having difficulty lining up the spline.

I have trouble getting my spline aligned sometimes getting up in the morning

Seems like you are almost there. Hey, since it seems you like the practice. I will come down and you can work on my clutch. I will even bring the beer prior to when the cursing starts

Oh, I like the practice, but the real questions is, can you afford that much brew?

Sam Adams is pretty Good. It's also the highest Calorie beer you can drink But it does have flavor.

Never really had St. Pauli Girl Beer. I have seen it but never tried it.

Now if you like Sam Adams you will probably like Bitburger and Warsteiner and Paulaner Beer. True German Bier = YUMM.

Transmission is in and I will be driving it soon.! Although I did get my pinky mashed between the axle housing and the sub-frame getting the trans into its proper aligned position.
