01 1.8T 5speed beetle no 2nd or 4th
Was driving home came to a stop when I took off I went from 1st to 2nd gear I didn't have 2nd. So I went to 3rd it was fine shifted to 4th and nothing. The shift lever stays in position of 2nd & 4th but acts like it is in neutral. 1st 3rd 5th and reverse all work fine.

My guess is the linkage.
