Default O1M tranny

I believe my daughters 2000 1.8t tranny is on its last leg. Started shifting hard and slipping. Got the PO740 code too. Changed fluid and filter 250 miles ago and when I checked it last night it is burnt already. Any ideas where the best place to purchase remanufactured tranny? Not interested in swapping to manual. Any ideas are welcomed.

This is as good of a deal as I've ever found. And its brand new, not reman.

Thanks Smileybug. I looked at that last nite and spoke with the company today regarding shipping etc. Has anyone ever purchased from them etc. and what were the results? The only issue I see is the company only has a 60 day warranty on the "new" tranny. Doesnt quite make sense to me. I can by used ones with at least a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty.

We've purchased other parts from there. No issues.

Did they tell you the warranty stuff over the phone? Because I don't see anything on the site about that. Also, I've yet to see a reman unit anywhere near that price. $3-4k is pretty typical, if not more. Not sure on used prices, but with a used unit, you have no idea what you're getting. What if you get through that warranty and then the trans craps out again? Back to square one. Which is why I highly dislike VW auto transmissions.

Yes he told me that over phone. Said he may be able to do a 6month warranty but that would be it. Standard is 60 days. He also stated that if its going to fail, its going to fail within the first 60 days, which we all know is not true. I just towed my daughters car home tonight and dropped the pan. Definately burnt fluid but surprisingly fairly clean pan. Am considering replacing valve body first and going from there. Also I believe the trans cooler may be clogged and caused the tranny to get hot. Will be taking it off tomorrow to evaluate.

I've done lots of biz w/ Parts Place over the years(20+) and have always been happy, can't tell you how they deal with problem merchandise though as I've never run into that with them.

I have been buying from Parts place since... 1988... God I feel old.

Something to keep in mind is that New doesn't always been BRAND NEW to them. It just means as good as new unless specified otherwise. They pull loads of parts off of nearly new cars and consider a transmission to be new if it has less than 10,000 miles showing which it is to be honest.

That out of the way. I had one return for an exhaust piece I ordered but was for an automatic while I had a manual. No extra fee's were involved. They shipped out the correct part before I had to send back the part they already sent and they even covered return shipping. This was way way way back in 1992 or so. Policies could have changed but I doubt it. They are very consumer driven and are here specifically to make Volkswagen ownership a more affordable and pleasant experience.

Thanks for all the info. Since most people on this forum dont seem to post results of their fixes or their decisions I figured I would share my decision.
Although the above link was a heck of a deal on a new tranny, I still couldnt get past the warranty issue. I enjoy working on this car for my daughter but it makes it a little tough since she lives 70 miles away. I have completed everything from timingbelt waterpump, motormounts, coils, etc. etc. etc. But trannys are not my specialty lol. So with a good sound warranty I can have her take it in for warranty work if needed etc. I decided to go with a semi-local shop that has a lot of experience in rebuilding these trannys. They are going to do a total rebuild for under $2500 and give me a complete 2 year 24,000 mile warranty. I am dropping the car off tonight and the car will be ready in 3 days. Thanks to everyone who posted!!!
