Question Problems with 98 New Beetle

Have a 98 VW Beetle we just got at an auction, hubby said transmission would have to be replaced (2.0 AT Engine code AEG Tranny code DYQ, 4 speed).

Just got transmission from salvage yard, installed, it only shifts from P to Reverse, 1st and 2nd, does not go into 3rd and 4th. Also display on dashboard only shows P R D 3 2 1, no brackets. Please help!

Not familiar with a "DYQ"; perhaps either, O1M, O2E, O2J, O2M, OA4 or O9G?

A '98 would be a O1M. The DYQ is probably an code within the trans group. For example, we have an 020 transmission in our Mk1 but it is a 7A coded unit, which has a specific gear ratio, final drive, etc. associated with it.

Yes, you are right, DYQ is the Transmission Sub-Type; I discovered it when I was researching my own transmission issue.

DYQ is the Sub-Type of an O2J transmission.
