Default 01 Beetle 2.0 01m slipping Help!

I just found this forum and I need help. I have a new to me 01 Beetle 2.0 auto. I assume it is a 01m. The car seems to shift fine except 4th. In 4th the car tends rev if too much gas is applied. Could it be slipping clutches or valve body pressure related problems. I drove the car around manual shifting through the gears and all is good until 4th. It will hold speed on the interstate until you hit a hill and need to throttle. I have to manual shift down to third to throttle and then shift back to 4th when over the hill. Any help would be appreciated. I've been in the hospital for stage 4 abdominal cancer this year for 110 days and I need to fix this as cheaply as possible.

Sorry to hear about your illness.

I am not a auto trans pro or anything but from hanging around this forum your description sounds like what many say about their auto transmissions and the usual reply if I am not mistaken is it needs a rebuild.

From what I gather they go out slowly one gear at a time, is a ticking time bomb once you hit 100k miles, and to stay away from them altogether if you can drive a stick.

It sucks that this happens to you at the worst possible time

Now it is slipping between all gears. Does anybody think I could just replace the valve body with a reman. or is this going to be a full transmission. Anyone know of a good trans person in North Georgia. I've got to get this car going cheap.

If its slipping, not sure if the valve body is going to do much. You can replace it, but the symptoms, from what I've read at least, of a failed valve body is hard shifts, not slippage. If its slipping, then your transmission is on its way out.

That said, my husband's Honda has had a slipping trans for the last 20k+. We changed the fluid more frequently, but the last time we did it there were metal shavings and it only stopped slipping for a day or 2. We know the trans is going to go eventually but we're driving it until it does. Then likely swapping in a manual if we keep the car.
