Yes, this is helpful. As I understand this, my final drive ratio in high gear on my 98 TDI (code DQY) is 2.562.

Then, with the EGD transmission, bolted up to the TDI and a .658 fifth from where ever it is the TDI guys are getting them this would give me a 2.591 final ratio.

This would give me low gearing for putt-putting around in the hills and trails, but it would leave my highway cruising right back near stock, so my mileage wouldn't take a hit on that end.

It looks like this is the only way to get back to that same final ratio, but there are other combinations available by swapping and mixing and matching. they would give different results that I would have to weigh individually. I saw someone linked to a calculator in the FAQs here, but the link is dead, apparently. If anyone knows where to find a good calculator for VWs that would be great.

Does this sound completely out of whack, or am I on the right track?

Does anyone have any thoughts, snickers or pokes at my thought here?

Also does anyone know about gear swapability between different transmissions such as the 02J/02O/02M/??? ?
