Did you order (request) a 2.5L or a TDi. If you ordered a TDi your car will have the 6 speed DSG transmission.

My 2005 TDi has it and I love it. No transmission problems so far (~18,000 miles).

I just saw that it looks like you ordered a convertible. I don't think those are available in a TDi configuration. I haven't heard anything about the automatics yet.

The NBC never has and probably never will come in a diesel. Anybody else heard of problems with 06 auto tranny??

This is only true in North Amercia. In Europe it does indeed come with a Diesel and I am horribly jealous. I would so buy a TDi NBC with cloth

The transmissions are both very reliable with only a few stray problems here and there that seem to have been completly ironed out. You car should prove to be very reliable.

Oops, forgot about Europe!! I don't even try to keep track of what Europe gets and we don't and vice versa. How do they determine that Europeans will buy a diesel NBC and we won't? Did they do a survey or what?

Have fun with your new car! What color?

It is a traditional American resistance to Diesel. Most Americans experience with Diesels are pickups, which tend towards the noisy side, and old Mercedes which smoke alot.

Though, I have noticed over the past year that there have been a significant increase in the number of VW TDi's on the road.

In time Americans resistance to Diesels will fade, particularly as the cleaner burning, and quieter models get rolled out.

Default Finite # of TDI's

The reason that NBC probably don't have the TDI option in NA is the fact that VW has a cap on the number of TDI's they can stuff in the hoods of their cars here. For every one they would put in a vert, they would have to take one from a Jetta, Golf, or NB. Probably figured that it just wasn't worth it and left the #'s the same.

I know that when the word came out about no TDI's in 07, the production of Jetta TDI's went up, making it harder to come by a golf or NB with one.

Go with a stick shift car, much better i guess. Tranny problems are too common on VW's.

04 and newer TDI's came with the new DSG auto's which are a new breed. I agree with the above statment if it's anything but s TDI since 04 or anything before.

DSG shouldn't even be labeled as an auto. It just doesn't do it justice. This is like a third type of tranny.

Think of it as Manual, Auto or now DSG.

And I'm sure Paul Newman would say the same thing.
