Join this group I just created. I want to have an all New Beetle get together in August. Trust me this will be really awesome. Our beloved New Beetle as we know it is gone and this will be a tribute to it before the next incarnation floods the roads.

I'm not from Detroit or anywhere near it, actually.....but I would be interested in learning more about this event, especially if it applies to New Beetles only. If I can drive to Roswell, New Mexico, I could certainly make Detroit. (I live in Wisconsin). Your link requires Facebook membership, which I don't have, so could you tell me more?

I would also continue to broaden your promoting and planning of this GtG with both the org and FB and not FB alone- the more the merrier.

While untold millions are on FB, here's why I'm not: I am a part-time freelance writer,and I actually signed up for FB in an effort to promote my articles. However, some of the stuff I write is very personal, and since FB consists of not only members across the country (or entire world) we'll never meet face-to face, but also those we see on a regular basis, I didn't want some of my very intimate and opinionated material being read by everyone I know.

It also worked a bit like a Pyramid scheme...suddenly people I hadn't been in contact with since Jimmy Carter was president were finding me and all the ensuing replies of "How have you been?" greatly took away from my writing. I cancelled my account. There is just far too much potential for one's privacy to be compromised. I realize by not being on FB, I'm losing out on potential royalty income, but not revealing everything about my personal life means more to me.

I understand where you're coming from P-50.

Although FB has helped me get back in touch with some good friends, lost through the years, it is a vortex, a rabbit hole if you will, that entrances you with games, polls, causes and such.

Maybe they have some place, but with the org, at least you're more pigeon holed into one subject- the new beetle and not sucked in with that other FB gobbledegook.

That being said, I hope the org will be the soil by which this GtG is grown.

Yeah, I am really interested in this Detroit GTG, especially if it's New Beetles. Our community desperately needs events we can call our own so we won't be ostracized from the air-cooled crowds or the twentysomethings with tricked-out Golfs. Roswell was so awesome that words can't adequately describe it! It is a holiday weekend, so I hope that we on the Org will hear from the OP Tuesday so we can look into making plans.

I dropped a suggestion that this event be broadcasted here as well as FB- even the more here.

I'm poking and prodding to get more concrete details i.e., the meeting place in Chicago as well as a date and time- it's one of the main ingredients to a successful GtG, good turnout included.

Although I can't make it (way down in FL and my bugs out of flux), I still want this to be a successful GtG. If the folks don't have a date, time, and meeting place established, any potential attendees might lose interest in this thread. Furthermore, with everyone with lives and a schedule to boot, many need to schedule this event into their routine. If all the info is submitted at too late of a date, many might have plans committed in the GtG slot.

Advance planning and a solid itinerary is key.

Exactly. If I don't know the details, I can't put in for vacation, and if only Facebook members are informed, that leaves many potential interested parties out of the equation.

Hello New Beetlers! Here's what I think would be something superfun to do and share are NB camaraderie. I want to get as many of us together and have a cruise down Woodward during the Dreamcruise on August 20th. Anybody that has been there knows the venue and traditionally saturday is the worst cruise day as most folks just park their cars and watch normal everyday modern cars drive up and down Woodward. Well you know what would be a giant hit? Hundreds of New Beetles driving in mass and doing a loop of all of Woodward! Trust this will be so much fun. Anybody who has driven in a NB convoy knows what I am talking about. Its an experience to say the least. We need to drum up folks to join here. Of course this isn't a formal GTG or anything, its just a cruise on the biggest cruise day of the year! What do you folks think? Obviously more to follow, but we got a month and a half to get folks interested.

Oh Heck Yeah, I'm so there. I posted in the Thread section about crashing the cruise they hold in Telegraph road. I think a nice influx of New Beetle's would be cool among all that American Iron.

Thanks for posting the info here on the Org. Such a cruise sounds like a lot of fun, but unfortunately, Detroit would be a long drive from Wisconsin just to take part in something that sounds like it would last about 20 minutes as opposed to a show or GTG that would last for several hours. If some sort of picnic or informal gathering could be arranged following such a cruise, that would draw more distant NB owners.

August 20th is a matinee/evening performance of "Shenandoah,the Musical",which I am proud to be involved with. It is at the Henry Ford (Greenfield Village),anything after that weekend would be great with me.That would be an AWESOME sight,all those NB rolling down Woodward!
