Default Need a garage in MD/PA/VA

Rob (TechnoTrix'd) and possibly Josh (bugasm99) have graciously offered to help me install a new clutch, but we need a garage to work in! Anywhere in MD, PA, or NoVA is good, possibly this weekend or next weekend (beginning of Feb). We need to be able to close the garage door and still have enough room to move around in, and the car needs to be jacked up at least 30". Help? I'll bring cookies or hot chocolate or something.

Gina
I can get you a 20 bay garage with lifts, and all the tools. Seriously. I'm in the military (doing a residency at Bethesda), and the auto hobby centers are fully equipped garages. There's a bunch of bases around here, Andrews, Walter Reed, Ft Myers, that have the centers. I would have to meet you to get you on base, but i have to do some work on my car so that should be ok. There's an hourly charge between $3-6 to use it. I know you're bringing help but there are also mechanics to help if you run into any problems. Taras

Wow, that would be great! You would be able to get Rob and Josh (if he comes) in there as well? How much of a heads up do you need?

Gina,

Make sure you've gone though this old thread from last year: 3 day's, 4 projects, and I gotta get to work on Monday in this car...
just so you see all of the pieces that this involves..

If Josh can make it, we should be able to squeeze this into one 8 hour day (if all goes well).

If not, then it will go into a second day. So, your' looking at possibly 10-12 hours of garage time..

Also, make sure if you want to do anything with your intake, shifter linkage or brakes that you have it all ready to go. Now would be the best time to do that work.

Rob..

Well with my car, nothing ever "goes well" right off the bat. Why does it take so long? Don't you just take out the old parts and put in the new ones? I'll get in touch with Josh and see when might be good for him. You have a weekend preference?

Spoken like a true woman! I'd expect more from you, G.

Hope all goes well. I have no doubts since Rob and/or Josh is helping.

Maybe I'll get a TIP while I'm at it? Who needs money anyway.

Wait......can't.......breath.......now.......laugh ing........to.........hard......

Along with the entire transmission, and about 200 additional little pieces...

Seriously though, the one new lag bolt on the back of the trans-housing took me almost an hour to tighten by myself last time. The actual Clutch/Pressure Plate/Flywheel pieces you can swap in a matter of minutes.

It's all the other stuff which takes time...

It's first come first serve, i think saturday hours are 9-5, and they let you store(push it outside to a space) the car if the work isn't done. I havnt done any work at any of the places around here since i transfered from Cali recently, but i'll ask my friend which one is best. Air force usually has the nicest stuff, so Andrews might be the best bet. i may not be able to do it this saturday as i might be in NYC, but im still debating that. i should be able to get everyone on base, but you have to have a drivers license, insurance, and registration. security is tight on bases. Since it's MLK everything is closed but i'll call around tomorrow. If you google auto hobby centers military base you should be able to get a better idea. taras

It's usually not allowed, if you could, please PM that number to those who you want to see it.

I'll let it go for now; after all, it's your own number. But pls DO come back and edit the post to remove the # within the next couple days.

While my house doesn't have a garage, my Mom's does... if you don't mind driving to Stafford you could use it.

Thanks Mark, long time no see! Have you replaced a clutch before? I'm sure we could always use a helping hand, especially since I won't be doing a whole lot of the replacing

Yeah, if you guys pick somewhere close I would love to see a clutch install. Is it slipping now? Are you replacing it with OEM stuff or aftermarket?

It's slipping now, yeah. I'll hit the gas and it'll rev with no go. I was probably going to get the ECS stage 1 clutch, basically a VR6 clutch with a lighter flywheel
