1st Annual Volskwagen Traffic Jam
Governor's Island, NY Harbor

The Traffic Jam is a spectator-judged vintage Volkswagen car show and picnic on historic Governors Island in New York Harbor—the first of its kind in NYC. Get bumper-to-bumper with Beetles, buses, Karmann Ghias, dune buggies, and other VDubs circa the 1950's through the 1970's from NYC and beyond.
The event is open to all. So whether you're a classic VW owner, enthusiast, or a spectator, join us for a sweet day of vintage cars, picnicking on the lawn, events, music, and more! Stay tuned as we add an event schedule, vendors, and other details as the Jam approaches.

The Volkswagen Traffic Jam will take place at Picnic Point, a gorgeous 8-acre lawn space on the southwest rim of Governors Island. The site has stunning views of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor. Food and beverage vendors will be present, but we encourage you to bring picnic food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as bikes and blades for exploring! The island rents bikes as well.
Sorry folks...but Governors Island does not allow overnight camping, pets, grilling, or byo alcohol. Beer will be sold at the event.
The Traffic Jam is rain or shine.
Spectators:

The public attends FREE from 10AM-4PM. At this car show, the audience decides "Best in Show" for each VW class...so come and vote your favorite vehicle!
Please note that Governors Island is only accessible by ferry and is usually a "no-car" zone. Registered show cars will be the only vehicles permitted on the island on show day, so check our directions to find out how to drive and park, walk or use public transportation to get to Governors Island.
Car show entrants:

All aircooled Volkswagens are welcome: any condition or year. The Traffic Jam will be a spectator-judged show and shine with award categories including:
Spectators' Choice: Beetle (all years/models), Bus (all years/models), Karmann Ghia (all years/models), Thing (all years/models), Types 3/4 (all years/models), Dune Buggy (all years), Volks-Rods and Customs (all years and models).
