Exclamation ***UPDATE*** GA (and surrounding areas) GTG for Alzheimers

Ok here are the newest details on the GTG in Athens.

We will be meeting at the Varsity in Athens around 3pm.

We will chitchat, have a bite to eat and all that jazz. We can still raise money for Alzheimer's, so if you want to donate you can. I don't have any official receipts or anything, I suppose I could get some carbon copy receipt paper so if you want to use it for tax purposes we could do that. Please let me know if you are interested in doing that.

The event will end ... whenever. We could all ride into Athens and hang out or whatnot. Or we could just eat at the Varsity then leave. Whichever works for your schedule.

If anyone needs directions please check out the varsity website www.thevarsity.comand click on the Athens location to get an address.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. My cell is 678-591-3913 I'd like to know how many people are going to come so if you could post here whether or not you can make it that'd be great. I'm still working on trying to mass email everyone here on the org to see if maybe some people just haven't seen this thread. So, any questions? This should be a fun turn out!

Thumbs up

The Botanical Gardens in Athens is a nice place. Not sure if the grounds are set up for picnics or outdoor cooking, but we could always convoy to another location for that if we decide on having an outdoor lunch.

Sounds like a great start. Now we just need lots of folks to jump on board!!

Yeah I'm a bit bummed myself. I thought more people were interested. Is there a way I can get a list of all the people on this board who live in or around GA? I'm going to start making business cards that have the date of the GTG on them and whenever I see a NB in the parking lot I'll stick it on their window. But I need input on a date and place.

I'm down. But, like I said before, you won't get but a handful of people from here; at best. Gotta go to the Vortex.

You mention getting a list for all the GA members. If you use the advance search, while on the member list you can specify the state in your search. I just did it and there are 154 members listed in GA. You could also do South Carolina and add them.

Try to see if newbeetle.org can PM all the GA members as a group and be sure to include this information on other sites, such as VW vortex.

Okay, so nearly 2 weeks into this post, and the response is very sad... I'm a little new to all this, but is it possible iscott is correct in saying the Vortex is the only way to get a good response in setting up a GTG??? If so, I'm dissapointed in our org folks...

You can count another one. We're in Aiken SC but we'll pencil in the 19th and I'll subscribe to this thread so I can keep up to date.

The 19th is a little over 2 weeks away. Is this still going to happen? Do we have more than just rudimentary plans in place?

I haven't made any alternate plans yet for the 19th. Hopefully MichelleRoze pipes up with something firm.

I think the 19th will be fine. I have yet to hear from my mother and her sebring convertible group, but oh well. I want a NB GTG! What does everyone think of the Varsity in Athens??? I don't know of many places in Athens so if anyone knows of something let me know. I'm assuming mid afternoon to early evening works the best for everyone??? Sorry for such late details, been a very busy few weeks lately.

The 19th sounds good to me. I don't mind driving to Athens.
If I get my engine swap done by then I will be there for sure.

Is this going to be a meet and eat type thing or a simple GTG? We do this often with the Honda Element owners (www.elementownersclub.org) and have found mid afternoon works best especially for the folks that have to drive longer distances. Do we have an intinerary or just meeting at the Varsity in Athens? What is the Varsity?

The Varsity is a little hotdog grease joint from what I hear. I have yet to be but I heard it's a nice place to hang out. We can eat if we'd like, I figured since I have to work that morning that maybe we could meet there say around....3 or 4? Make it an early dinner kinda thing?

Here's the link to their restaurant ....http://www.thevarsity.com/ let me know what you think.

An institution within itself...this is The Varsity...

www.thevarsity.com

From this link, go to locations and Athens is listed there, including a map.

Ok count us in!!

The Varsity will be a great place to start. The Botanical Garden is a straight shot (about 5 miles) from there if we want to caravan there after we eat. It may be wise to check with the B/G to insure they dont have a wedding or some other event already on the schedule.

iScott, can you get the word out on the Vortex? Short notice, but NB owners are always up for an event!!

We're looking at a 3+ hour ride each way. If we can get this going for 3:00 that would be great. Checked out the Varsity menu. Looks like a great starting point.

I think 3 will work. That should leave me plenty of time to get out of work, get home and change and then head out. I think this will be fun!
