I tried this with the SC folks and we had 2 GTG's tho the 1st was just 2 attendees. I'm in Aiken so if we could do this somewhere within a 1.5 hour drive for us, we'd love to go. Obviously the date would have to be after New Years so, as it's been said, plan it and they will come. And from experience with the vintage VW, and Element owners Saturday is the better of the two weekend days. I also searched members who lived in SC, Ga and No. Fla and PM'd them the link to the thread.

For me, since I'm in college, I'd like to do it after my quarter is up. Which is like March/April ish. Plenty of time after the holidays and I don't really think there is a lot going on around that time. Besides, my birthday is in April and it would be fun. I will try to make it as centrally located as possible. I just need to know where people are. I'm willing to travel a little ways. We'll keep this thread open until...say...Mid-January? Depending on how many responses I have by then, we'll see when is the best time and work on where. I want it to be warm enough to allow people to wash their bugs too. I know mine is filthy!!!

I'm good for another GA GTG. Before you solidify any plans, take a look and see if they're any other VW/org GTG's that might conflict with what you're planning. I know for me, there's a "Volkswagens on the beach" show i'll be attending in April. I think March would be a good month.

All though Savannah was nice, there's just not enough parking for us to congregate.

RK, Aphid, & I haven't been to anything VW since Bug-a-Paluza back in April, and we're going through serious withdrawal. It seems like we blinked around Memorial Day and it was Thanksgiving.

Building a successful GTG is tricky due to varying levels of commitment and interest plus the interference of life itself. Find a couple of hard-core folks excited, settle on a date, time, and place, then have a good time with whomever shows up. Then when you post pics and share that excitement, you'll draw others for next time.

All that being said...we'd love a Georgia GTG! Sunday is out for us unless it's in metro ATL. We can clear a Saturday and a road trip is just what Aphid needs. I'll watch this thread, and maybe after the Christmas rush we'll have a better idea about our schedule. Looking forward to meeting new peeps and seeing "old" friends again.

Sorry Al, I should have been clearer in my statement. I PM'd folks when I was trying to get the SC Meet N Eat off the ground not for this GTG. I'll leave that up to MichelleRoze

I'm down as long as it's not too terribly far outside of Atlanta.
As of now any date works for me. Let's do it before it gets too cold.

I would love to see that museum, it looks really cool. Only problem is it's only open Tuesday - Thursday from 1-4 and closed in May, June, and July and closed the week of Thanksgiving, the week of Christmas, and two weeks after Christmas. Those really aren't great hours! I can't believe the place stays open with those kinds of hours and with admissions of only $5!

But i'm really wanting to make this GTG maybe in March or April. I think those are good early spring months that will allow everyone to recoupe from the holidays. It also will allow the weather to be warm enough (not like these last few days of 70 degrees hasn't been great) to wash the cars and make sure they're all detailed and ready. This is still a feeler thread. After the new year we'll see where we stand. Thanks for the interest, I'm excited, and hopefully this will work this time.

Bummer. I knew they were open 3 days a week and at one time it was Thursday thru Saturday. If we do go as suggested by Raff, to Madison, at least the parking lot of the museum would make for the perfect meeting spot with photo opportunities.

That's a good point, we could all meet there and take pictures in front of the museum. That'd be kinda fun. I'm gonna have to find time off to go though because it looks really cool.

Let me know if/when you think you'll go. If I can make it I'd join you. I just watched the video's on the site and it's really neat seeing them drive around. They'll also be having the 2009 microcar meet there Memorial Day weekend. I'm a child of the 50's and remember seeing a few of these cars on the streets and have been in love with them since.

Really neat place - that was the ulterior motive for mentioning Madison.
The museum hosts a fair amount of club tours - so the general public isn't their only concern. And the "admission" charge is donated to the local ASPCA.

So who wants to drive up there the 3rd or 4th Thursday or Friday in January. I'm chomping at the bit to hit the museum. Of course it'll just be the practice run to find the meeting spot for the spring GTG

so i'm guessing this is a recon mission, and not the official GTG that Michelle is wanting, right? It's kinda close, timewise, but I just might, and I stress might try and make that.
