2009 Daytona GTG

Hello Florida nB/VW owners and fans

it looks like we're seeing some activity from some of you Daytona nB owners which is good news. Anyway, it would great if we could get a GTG in motion.

What we need is some input on when we can do this. With early preparation, we should be able to not only find a good place for the event, but also give folks enough time to make plans in their schedules to make a firm commitment.

I'm asking for some help from the Daytona crew on where we can have the GTG. I live in Jacksonville and doing the footwork on my end is a little more difficult. You all in Daytona know the spots, thus saving you a lot of running around. So please your help is much needed.

So let's get a fun GTG in motion.

I'm definately in for this GTG. Saturdays i think are best. the only dates I can't make it (other)GTG's are May 9th and June 25-28. Other than that, i should be good.

So Daytona crew, where would be a good place to meet?

I sent a PM to Zaba's owner- hopefully He's in as well. I was noticing in His pic thread, that Zaba was the only nB represented @ the GTG he attended. It would be nice if we could make a big showing.

That sounds GRAND to me =D. Here at Embry-Riddle (my university), we have a European Car Club and a Sport Compact Import Club. I'm not really in either, because I don't pay their dues, but I show up to their meetings once in a while. Unfortunately no NB's, but they do have some cool golf's, gti's, and jetta's.

Anyway, I'm really busy during the week but I'm free on weekends. I'm definitely down for starting a new Daytona GTG. We've got a lot of great places to take pictures, get some food, and have some fun! If it were during the week, I'd really have to try hard to fit it in, cause I'm still a student .

I definitely like Daytona's Drive-On the Beach. We can get some great photos on the beach. And it's free until the Winter season is over. There's Tomoka State Park, which is a great 30min cruise through a sweet forest! The road is straight for 5 miles and the trees bend over the road from both sides and form a tunnel. Then there are some windy parts near a creek.

As for food, we can meet up and eat anywhere cause there are so many yummy places.

I hope most of you came out to the Daytona Winter Jam last week, that was a blast. I got a few photos next to Zaba's grandfather, a 1973 Beetle in the same Cyber Green color hehe.

Let's throw some idea's out about our GTG! Especially you Alisha

It would be sweet to go up to Tomoka State Park, that would be a great place to take pictures, and its a nice little ride , beach is good too... I'm trying to think of some other places, just drawing a blank! As far as food, there are good places all over so I don't know about that... I'm available whenever, I work Mon-Fri in Palm Coast.. 9-5 ew.. nights/weekends are good..

I'm good with Tomoka State park as well. Like i said, i'll an out-of-towner, but i'll be there. So how should we (as if i'm there)plan this: Cruise the beach, go to the park, then grab a bite to eat?

So Adam, being that you work every other Saturday, you can set the date. Now keep in mind, i started the thread to get things in motion, so you don't have to set it like this week or two. I figured if we cook thing around, we can get something worked up, at least by spring.

What do you guys think?

UM, you're thinking of a Daytona GTG and no one has yet mentioned Daytona Speedway???? And if you are set on a Saturday GTG you could go to the Nationwide Series race, it's cheaper AND most of the Sprint Cup drivers are in it anyway Not sure when the next Daytona race is but I think it's more in the summer time. I might consider a Daytona GTG Just can't until summer time. I"m already taking time off this month for school and vacation back home to Michigan then in May for the dragon cruise. Kinda want to ease off on my bosses a bit with the time off. Especially because I don't have any more vacation days. (I only had 2 anyway) Let me know what ya'll decide. I might be up for it.

I was kinda straying from motor speedway events as well; only because i'd like the GTG to be centered on just the GTG and not fighting through the madness that comes with speedway events e.g. traffic/parking accommodations/conveniences . I'm a Sprint Cup fan (Go #88...Jr. Nation!!), but i think with all the opportunities we will have with cruising through Daytona, hanging out and a nice place to eat, it will be a fun event on it's own merit.

This sounds like a cruise-friendly event, would you all agree?

And I agree, we could have the GTG in the early summer- we're in the planning stages now. Looks like there's 3 who are in at the moment

Yeah it's more of a friendly meeting to get to cruise around and do things as a nB family. We don't have to meet every single week, but we could every other week, hopefully this will provide us with more people at once. I'm even up for meeting this Saturday, March 7th. Alisha, Al, and I are all close by so maybe at least we can meet up. Anyone else who decides to come would be great too, but I think we should start things up earlier, so it can get bigger and better by spring.

I can get a few V-Dubs (not beetles) to tag along at least for the first few times to get some pics of the NB's and to simply meet up as a VW group. Let me know what you think of next Saturday.

I set a few POI's on google maps if you want to take a look. Everyone should add something interesting and we can visit those places during our GTG's. We can cruise to and fro and take pictures everywhere we go.

I'd say don't put us on the definite list, yet, but Denise & I would like to make this GTG. It's a 6+ hour ride one way so we have to decide on aquiring lodging for Saturday night or making it a 3 or 4 day weekend and heading down to Naples after the GTG to visit old friends. I still have to replace the MAF, front O2 sensor and passenger side axle shaft on Feist before the TOD run, and being unempolyed for 10 months now really puts a crimp in things. Sooo, put us on the fence

And I do like your idea on having a few getting to know you GTG's before the official GTG. And non-nB VW's are more than welcome to join the shindig.

You definitely DO NOT want to miss her birthday! hehe. No car, no matter how beautiful (NB) is worth missing a birthday .

I thought it was early myself, but I thought of the 7th because I'm flying to New York on the 13th and won't be back until the 22nd. So the next possible day would be March 28th for me.

...and I'm heading back to New York for 4 months (May 1st - August 27th)
