Default Biff Burger Beetle Bugout- GTG/planning thread

Hey gang,

Much to my surprise (will explain in next post) there is a piece of Americana that still exists.... and it resides in St. Petersburg FL

BIFF BURGER

the last one in exsistance in the U.S.

We've got to have a GTG here. If it's a GTG of one (ME) so be it, but this GTG will happen.

I'm starting this thread way in advance, so that you all can plan way in advance (get a dog sitter, write in in you planner, etc.) so we can have a big turnout.

I'm thinking about July 18th, which is a Saturday; this should give us plenty of planning time. Your input on scheduling is greatly appreciated. .

Come on Tampa Bay. Lets have a great GTG at the Last Biff Burger in exsistnace.

Hearing some of your stories would be cool too

And for some of you who have no clue what Biff Burger is....CLICK HERE

I went down to Brooksville this past weekend, to visit my Mom and brother; my brother is in the hospital- he's doing fine BTW. Anyhoo, we were sitting aournd and talking about things of our youth. I happened to mention Biff Burger and my brother's girlfriend mentioned that there's still one in exsistance in St. Pete.... my jawdropped in surprise. The last time I had a Biff Burger, was around '76, and shortly thereafter, they closed.

I thought Biff Burger was just a Central FL thing, but much to my suprise, they exsisted accross the US. I always loved the style of their buildings and it's amazing that many of the buildings are still standing today, being used in other functions. And I really love the signs- they kinda remind me of the old Holiday Inn signs, which I think are so cool. I've wanted to take a pic of Cup in front of a Holiday Inn sign, but they are now defunct. Taking a Cup pic in front of Biff Burger will make up for it.

I hope we can get some participants for this GTG

Bump.

Yeah, Biff Burgers weren't culinary artistry, but they were, a piece of the 50'/60's americana. I just thought being that nB's are retro, that a nostalgic spot such as Biff Burger would be a good location for a GTG.

What say you?

We used to have a Biff Burger in Greensboro, NC. I used to sneak over from our high school daily and get a couple. That was 1967. If you can believe this, the manager has been there at that location since 1961! 47 years in the same burger restaurant!!!

However, the name has been discreetly changed to Beef Burger. According to the site below,
Ralph, bought his store in 1971, after managing it nearly 10 years. It was only a couple of years later that the Biff-Burger parent company disappeared. In May of 1981, his 10-year contract with Biff Burger had expired, however since the parent company had dissolved, the contract could not be renewed. At the time, Ralph was afraid someone would visit him demanding past franchise sums, so he reluctantly decided to change the name to Beef Burger, the closest he could come to Biff.

How far do you live from Beef Burger? You should get a GTG going there. That's a piece of nostalgia that's crying out for some nB attendence.

And thanks for sharing your story.

Hi Al. Well, at this point I'm about 180 miles away form Greensboro , NC where Beef Burger is, plus I just don't know any Beetle drivers up there. Actually I only know one personally in my hometown, although I see a few driving around.
However, I could go for a Beef/Biff burger right now!

I used to live in St Pete for almost 28 years. Good burgers.

It really depends on my job situation if I can make it or not. True, it is a good excuse to meet new people and all my old friends.

It is pretty cool that there's still one surviving. When my brother's girlfriend said that there was still one in existence, all I could do was

Default Biff Burger

I have been there and eaten too!I love their burgers and they also fry up some good chicken wings. That is a classy place for a GTG. Fridays is classic car show day and I think Thursday is bike night. I don't know if they do anything on Saturday. I know that the both nights I do know about the place is packed full of cars; so many that it is tough to park.

I guess we can see if they can reserve a Saturday for us, provided we can have a good attendance. If anything Ralph, you can rustle up the crew you hang with- that way we can have a good VW representation.

They also have bike nights on Saturdays. Right now I am thinking of...
Check out my Taco Tuesdays pictures on the Aircooled area. Everybody is invited. You don't have to drive an older VW to eat with us. Aunt Bea showed up in her Chevrolet Cobalt. Steve drove in with his Scirroco. And his neighbors were there too. But I don't know what they drive. I think it is a Honda.
And the BK thing has been going on for at least 15+ years.
I hope to be posting soon some pictures of this from a Birthday party I am going to which will be awesome.
Cool about Bugman! See you maybe at Funfest!

BUMP

I hope we can get some of you all from Tampa/St.Pete/Clearwater and points nearby, to attend.

I was watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the food network this past Friday, and noticed a resturant called the XXX, named after their brand of root beer. Anyhoo, this resturant is the last of it's kind- it reminded me of Biff Burger in St. Pete.... the last of it's kind. Matter of fact, our fellow orger, Mutato, just wrapped up a huge VW GTG this past week at the XXX. This is a great opportunity for us to have a cool GTG at the Last Biff Burger, which has a big retro/hotrod gathering already. What better place for us nB's to meet.

So chime in folks..... and let's get this GTG planned

This would be 3 hours from our old stomping grounds and good friends in Naples. If timing is right ($$$) we could possibly turn it into a long weekend and do this GTG
