Old Town - New Beetle GTG Weekend

St. Augustine, FL

Date: Friday, Sept. 11th - Sunday, Sept 13th, 2009.

GTG Event - Saturday Sept. 12th

Itinerary:
Friday Afternoon- Dinner at Al's house in Jacksonville. Followed by a bugavan to St. Augustine (30 min. drive) where we'll check in to our hotel.

Accommodations:
The official Old Town-New Beetle GTG hotel will be....

King or Double beds - No king beds for smoking rooms
Pets allowed- 10.00 extra per night

Saturday
Breakfast. Followed by sightseeing in Old Town 10:00-2:00
2:00-6:30 (or earlier) cruising from Old Town down A1A to park on St. Augustine Beach. Beach time, photos and just relaxation. Bring a camping chair and relax!
6:30- Bug wash and back to the hotel to freshen up for dinner
7:30- Dinner at Panama Hatties on scenic A1A
Free time after dinner- weather should be nice enough to take an evening stroll on the beach.

all events are subject to earlier times, depending on early departures from sightseeing and or beach.

Sunday- Breakfast GTG with Antonym and His bride- fellow orgers from Gainesville. After Breakfast, we'll play it by ear. Final goodbyes and homeward bound.


VITAL INFO:
Parking on the beach will be FREE!! Sept 1st ends the summer beach season and ends beach parking fees.

BEACH ACCESS:
Beach access is new beetle friendly. There's 3 nB friendly locations on St. Augustine Beach. Cup and I went on the DonDanville Rd. access- no problems. More recon on the other 2- will report soon.

ST. AUGUSTINE ACTIVITIES:
America's oldest city, a tourist town, is a wealth of sites and places to go. GTG's usually occupy the span of a day. I'm open to suggestions if you all would like to participate in post-GTG activities.

I can't say 100% that i'll be able to make it, but my vote would be for Sept 12th. (H2O is the weekend of the 26th.. 19th would be too close to that)

..maybe i'll actually figure out where my mom lives and i'll crash there.

Actually, I just found out today it HAS to be the weekend of the 12th because my mom is going out of state the weekend of the 19th and someone has to watch the dogs. So if it ends up being the weekend of the 19th I won't be able to go. So lets hope for the weekend of the 12th!!!!

By the way it's looking Michelle, it looks like it will be on the 12th. Is Matt coming with you?

Gang, check out my first post again and give me a little input on the lunch options. I think you all would enjoy Panama Hatties. I've eaten there before when the Old City Oil Drippers has a GTG. Eating on the 2nd floor with a view of A1A and the beach across the way- it's choice for sure.

There's another Lunch option that we might have on A Street. The place is called "Beachcombers"- we used to deliver there. A Street happens to be one of the beetle friendly beach access roads. To be sure, i'll be doing another recon this weekend just to make sure. I know for sure that Don Danville Rd is beetle-friendly beach access; Cup and I drove on it I'll get back with you all on this.

Val and I just might have to get a hotel room for the weekend. Sure, we're about 30 minutes from St. Augustine, but being that you all are going to be down for the weekend, We'll want to be closer- we'll see how the money is flowing

When I went on Recon last Friday, I wrote down a hotel that Val and I stayed in a while back, but for the life of me I can't find it. I'll try do dig it up, if not, i'll get it on my next recon, which will be Friday coming.

I hope Gary and His lovely wife can make it. Hey, anyone hear from Sully?

Sully IM'ed me over at the TDIclub, but he kinda avoided my question about the ToD and hasn't responded back since. I hope they are ok. I'd love to have him come down for this GTG! That'd be awesome!!!

Yeah I don't know. I'll send him a message over there letting him know about this one too. But I haven't seen him respond to the ToD either so I don't know what gives. I hope things are ok. He asked me about my car and I told him and haven't heard back...weird.

I will be. I'm probably gonna see if we can come down Friday and spend a three day weekend in FL. It's only a ... 6 hour drive I think. Something like that so we can hang out for a bit on Sunday.

Al, did you figure out what the hotel was yet? I'm gonna start pricing and see what I can get. Can't wait, I'm thrilled!!

If things are looking the way i'm hoping, my ValGal and I might have dinner for you all Friday night. I'll know something more difinative in a couple of weeks. It would be cool to see a few nB's in the driveway. Oh and you all too

I'll post the name of the hotel tonight. I'm taking the wife-unit to St. Auggie for dinner tonight- the Oasis restaurant to be exact- we'll do the recon while we're there. I'll give you all the 411 when I get back
