Default GTG at Tybee Island GA?

It has been my life long dream to drive a beetle to the beach. Silly to some, however having grown up in Los Angeles, driving my beetle past corn fields just isn't cutting it for me.

I have two possible times in mind to go down to Savannah to visit my son and his family.

Either in July (weekend after 22nd) for my beautiful grandsons second birthday or the second weekend in October for Pirate Fest (which is the weekend of the 8th)

Pro for birthday in July: Someone to help pay for gas as I'll drop her off in Macon on my way down.

Pro for Pirate fest: well Pirate fest and I'll have accumlated more vaca time

Denise & I are in for whichever date is settled upon. Tybee would be a great GTG and thanks for starting this thread

Pirate Fest sounds fun! If we can get away from the farm we would be all for for a GTG at Tybee ( actually went to Savannah and there a few years ago with the Miata Club. Very cool place!

Tybee would be awesome!!! I'm down for either weekend. Though I may be busy that weekend in October. I've agreed to do hair and makeup for a wedding and I don't know which weekend in October they picked.....but if we wanna do this...let's make it happen!!!

I'm going to try to sell my coworker on waiting til October I think.

As much as I'd love to be there for grandbabykins bday, they're going to be here in a month for a week. I'd like to spread the visits out a bit as I don't know when the next one will be

And, I really love pirates!

When you have the specific date in October, edit the 1st post with that info. It'll make finding that info much easier

Pirate Fest information here

I couldn't sleep last night wondering about parking. It's bad to find a parking spot at Tybee on a normal day. How will we find spots together?

Is there any area person that could help out with locating a place?

When we went with the Miata club we did not have any problems parking. ( I think there were about 35-40 cars) we parked at the lighthouse and at an oceanfront restaurant ( cant remember the name)
That was however offseason in April so it was not crowded.

for the Savannah GtG we found a paid parking place that had quite a few openings and walked to the resturant. We could probably do the same. Let's start a Thread for this Pirate weekend. I know it's in October...but it's NEVER too early to plan!

The 2nd weekend in October won't conflict. Besides, I'd want to go to the GTG too!

So, if I come in July I have help paying for gas on the way down. If I come in October I don't.

So, I'm still not sure which weekend it will be. Money is an issue since my baby girl is graduating at the end of the month and the bills are piling up. Lets not even talk about the cost of college

I'll know more after I get to the beginning of June and after all the graduation stuff is said and done.

I'm sorry I'm not more help.

I suppose you all could party like pirates even if I can't come lol

I did write to the Pirate fest committee about parking and got this response:

the only place I could think of for you all to park at would be the north part of south beach parking lot, we are planning on setting up a carnival in the ocean plaza lot. Not sure if this helps but I will bring it up at our next meeting someone else may be able to answer this better than I.

Remember July is peak season at the beach and everything cost more. Hotels often run 30%-50% more during peak so whatever savings you see on splitting gas will be eaten up by hotel cost.
I can also guarantee South GA will be much more pleasant temperature wise in Oct than July.

I concur with David, re: the heat in July and lodging costs. Plus the fact the Tybee tourism board created Pirate Fest to generate tour travel during off peak seasons.
