Default Dreher Island State Park day long GTG

OK you Org peeps, it's time to start planning for another GTG.
This one is Kurt's (supercharged98) idea, but he asked me to get the ball rolling. You all have 3 months to request the day off, rearrange your schedules and attend.

When: October 23rd (Saturday)
Where: Dreher Island State Park
About This Park - Dreher Island State Recreation Area - South Carolina State Parks

This will be a day long GTG where we'll have a spot to ourselves. There is water so the kids can get wet and have fun. We could do some badminton, horseshoes and lots O' grillin & chillin

Kurt suggested we all bring food to grill with enough to share and a side dish.

So far we have:
Kurt (supercharged98), Janie & family with #5 of hot dogs, 3- 12 packs of soda, sweet tea plus condiments.
Denise & Gary (vwgary) with 36 marinated chicken thighs, firewood & utensils.
Michelle (michelleroze) & Matt with cake (Matt's B-Day) and ice cream.
Carla (peanutsmom), Lance, peanut & family with tater salad, macaroni salad & hot dog rolls.
Al (scarabY2k) & Val with BBQ ribs
Dennis (dedwards0323) & Roberta with cole slaw for the dogs.
Chris (kcfoxie) AKA KC or Foxie with hummus, pita, diced onions & a lasagna
Lynne (uwharrie) & David, with baked beans
Nick (Burt The Beetle) & Holly with Brunswick Stew and sumpin' sweet
Steve & Tamika (HwDoYuSlpAtNite) with charcoal and paper goods
Timmy (Bugshop), Wendy & Daniel (Officially on a tentative basis) with chips
April (aprilm) & Gary (tentative depending on work schedules)

We'll edit and add to the list as Orgers step up to the table.
Let's do this one folks

So, I'm bumping this thread that is only an hour or so old. Denise & I were outside grilling, reminiscing about yesterday's GTG and talking about how great this type of GTG is going to be. I was originally planning a fallish bbq GTG at our place in Aiken but I think this will take it's place. Bear in mind, our welcome mat is always out for any Orger who is in the area. Denise & I love company and would love for nothing more than to see a driveway full of new beetles. However this venue will be alot more fun, especially for the kids since there is so much more to do. We are sooooooooo, looking forward to this GTG

Hmm, this sounds nice- this is a good possiblity.

We'll have to see if we're going to hit ATL first and stay with Val's sis or just drive straight up and then ATL when we're done. Either way, chances are good. I'll try and solidify things a bit more as the time draws near. I so want to make be there; it will be good seeing you and Denise again, as well as the other beetle peeps!

Aww, I'll see if I can convince Matt to do this. This GtG will be 3 days after his birthday!!!! What a better way to celebrate a birthday than with friends .. ok who am I kidding....FAMILY! We'll have to see and make sure his family doesn't plan anything that day for him here. I'll put in the day off from work now so that I"m more likely to get it! This will be so exciting. I'm loving living in the SouthEast more and more!!!

SO if this is a go, I guess we'll bring the cake and ice cream!

Dreher Island State Park is about 30 minutes out of Columbia on Lake Murray where we were yesterday. Denise nor I have ever been there so your best bet for info/directions will be in the link on the 1st post. It is, however an easy find if you can get to Columbia. Really looking forward to this GTG

Yup, PM'd them as well as David & Lynne (uwharrie) too.
With luck we can get Tabitha to join us and who knows, maybe Jose will trek eastward again. Another perfect opportunity to get butt kicked by Tabitha

Al, as soon as you know for sure you're going to make it, let me know and I'll add your dish to the 1st post.

I think Michelle & Matt are bringing cake & ice cream, but won't update the 1st post with that either till they firm up.

lol You can count us in for bringing cake and ice cream. Or atleast something of that sort. Though we'll have to stop along the way to get ice cream cause the trek up, it would for sure melt! lol I know, I do have A/C in the car but I prefer the windows down!

Can't wait. Here's hoping I get this new job. I would have ALLL weekends off! Woot! I would be so happy for that, plus the pay is good too and I would be at a shop where they work on BMWs and Mercedes....so I won't complain. lol So, fingers crossed. Hopefully I'll find out this week! But regardless, we're in for this GtG!!! I'll tell Matt to let his parents know we'll be out of state that Saturday and they'll have to do something for his bday on Sunday! lol
