Default 2010 Euro Auto Festival - Oct 15/16

Thought I would remind those NB owners in proximity to Upstate SC region that the 2010 Euro Auto Festival is nearly upon us. This year's event is scheduled for October 15/16 and is held at the BMW Manufacturing plant grounds in the Greenville/Spartanburg area. This annual car show, limited to European origin vehicles, is becoming a significant event. And this year's event is of particular interest to us NB owners as VW is the featured marque!! Mark your calendars and plan on attending this show as a NB GTG.

Here's the link to the show's website: 2010 Euro AutoFest

The activities planned for Saturday are the mainstay of the entire weekend. Car show (did I mention that VW is the featured marque this year!), performance driving at BMW's Performance Center (BMW provides the vehicles!), plant tour if you're interested, and of course, German food & BEEEEEEEER!

See everyone there.

We very well might attend, at least one day. My only hesitation is we've been doing car shows for 4+ decades from high end marques to air cooled VW's since the late 60's and since 03, the lowly new beetle. I have a genuine distaste for automotive snobbery and won't put up with it. Mainly the reason I won't attend SOWO, period. I may put my feelings in my back pocket and give this another chance but I don't have high hopes. I'm an old, ill tempered man with a low tolerance.

I think you'll enjoy the Auto Festival. And yes, you're going to see the whole range of cars on the showfield. Some are prime and would be right at home any Concourse De Elegance anywhere in the country. And you might see cars that make you wonder how they got there. But one thing is for sure, everyone at the show is a car enthusiast. I can assure that the MG Midget club is just as enthusiastic about their car as we are ours!

Several years back, Roberta & I went to the banquet, which I think really comes close to the 'automotive snobbery' you mentioned. Back then I entered our 3 Merkur XR4Ti's. Anyway, Roberta & I sat at a table where every other car owner had a Rolls-Royce. Rolls was the featured marque that year. And we talked about my XR4Ti's practically the whole evening. They were really interested in the car and how it performed. Go Figure! And they REALLY had some cars! There were over 100 RR's & Bentley's at the show that year. What a sight!

If you want to get a feel for the cars that you'll see, check out my Webshots Homepage for albums.

Thumbs up

Oh man what a TREAT! This show was awesome! We left last night from Greensboro,NC and headed to Spartanburg, SC. I reserved a room at the Super8 right across the street from the BMW plant for me and my girlfriend! We headed out at about 10am, the weather was PERFECT, not a cloud in the sky!

There was all kinds of cars there, from bugeye Sprites to the newest gulwing Mercedes Benz SL. To say the least there was a large turnout of VW's, everything from Things, to Westy's new GTI's and of corse BUGS! Odd thing I found is there was only one NB in the whole bunch! It was pretty nice though...Neuspeed supercharger, painted dash, pod guages, and other mods. Maybe next year we can plan on getting a few more NB's out there?

We also did the BMW performance drive.I drove a X5 on their offroad performance corse. Had a BLAST....and actually got a really good complement from the leading instructor that was watching the entire group go over a large hill obsticle that had tres off the ground (articultion)! Well worth the money speent! They also has M3 and M5 track testing and wet, and wet/dry corse's to drive on!

I have TONS of pics, Ill try to post some but I dont have my comp back yet from repair and hope to post a bunch up when I get it back!

Next year is a definite....and maybe we can get a crew to go!?

Really hated that I coudn't get out to the show this year. Business travel took me out of town last week and Delta couldn't get me back until noon on Saturday. And then found Roberta bad sick with some sort of intestinal bug. She was off her feet all day.and well into the evening.

Anyway, glad 4Seven3 had a good time and we'll mark this event as a GTG for next year.
