The recon mission to the lake today was a success. The picnic site is great! It's about twenty yards to the waters edge and there is a little sandy beach that you wade into. Wifey and Vern just went to Sprawl Mart to pick up last minute supplies. We met the rangers/guards at the entrance station and they are really nice. They know we are coming and are looking forward to our visit. They have promised us that the restrooms will be unlocked and ready for us as well. Hopefully the rain we had this afternoon will average tomorrow out to be nice. We has a whopper of a thunderstorm on the way back to the hotel in Newberry The power was out at the hotel and all through the town, torrential rain squalls and high winds. It was pretty intense! So with that behind us now tomorrow should be gorgeous. We can't wait to meet everyone! I am sure this is going to be a great event. We brought the camera so we will be posting pics from Wifey's computer tomorrow evening when we get back to the hotel.

Welcome to SC in the summer
It is like that most every evening around these parts, just not enough lately.

We had one heck of a storm here (about 80 mi. north west of DI) last night and rain this evening too. We need it bad so I'm not complaining but I haven't had a chance to clean up the beetle at all
Maybe I can get an early enough start in the morning to at least clean all the crap out of it LOL

The mac&cheese is on it's way into the crock pot as we speak

And I'll have to grab some charcoal on the way down in the morning.

Sorry guys. I"m bowing out as well. Matt's turbo in his Passat went on him. Tomorrow looks like the only real time he'll have to work on it before I go to Michigan next week. And of course, I'm his mode of transportation in the time being. So that's really taken a toll on my finances as well. I hate being yet another person to bow out but....times are tough as many have said. I hope ya'll have fun tho. Take lots and lots of pictures. I know I will regret missing this gtg. But we gotta fix the Passat...Probie is not a taxi....but he sure feels like it lately.

I also hate to bring some more bad news. Shonnel and Joey are out as well.

They dropped me a text and I failed to check all my messages. They send their apologies.

The economy really stinks out there gang. To all attending, please have fun for the rest of us.

Well, we won't be able to attend after all. Things suddenly got busy around here. I was hoping this would work out...
We've never been to a Beetle GTG.

Well, we're down to 7 new beetles, about the same as last year. But Tim hit the nail on the head. More Bitchin' Chicken to go around

We are just now leaving ourself.
But thanks to a little crockpot malfunction I did at least have time to wash the beetle

See everyone at about 11:30 and I'll have the charcoal so Gary I hope that doesn't get you started too late on the chicken.

Sitting under the shelter having a great time with our new friends. The chicken looks amazing. The ice cream is frozen and tastes great. Oreo mint chocolate chip for desert. The Mac and cheese is in the crock pot and is so gooey with cheese on top you are not sure there is any noodles in there at all. Needless to say we are about to sit down to a massive feast. The weather is good so far. The afternoon thunderstorms haven't started yet and the RADAR shows they are building but still pretty far away. Some of us have been in the lake and the water is just perfect. Will write more later as time permits.

We just got in after getting lost again on the way home. It was a great afternoon. Enjoyed seeing old friends again and meeting new ones. We look forward to seeing you all at the next GTG, or at least for ToD 2K12. Have a safe trip home to all you long distance travellers. And for those that couldn't make it, you missed some great company and awesome food

Thanks Kurt for organizing DI2

We just made it home after a short visit with family in Irmo after the GtG.
Gary, just as last year, the chicken was awesome!!
And Carla, the kids LOVED the tater salad.
And Chuckie, the ice cream was a hit, just what we needed as the day heated up.
It was nice seeing everyone again and some new faces too. I can't wait for TOD 2k12.

I appreciate the kind words. The ice cream was impossible to keep frozen due to the excessive heat. I just couldn't melt the ice fast enough to maintain zero degrees with the heat on the bucket. They were pretty good milk shakes though!

Wifey and I had a blast meeting you all. Yes I was disappointed at the no shows, but I forgot all about that once I had a taste of that chicken and tater salad! Gota get the recipes for both!

Thanks to Kurt and Gary and the rest of the group for making our 600 mile round trip odyssey a smashing success. Looking forward to next years event.

It was a great time

Well I likes the "milk shakes"
And I don't remember hearing anyone complaining.

I do hate that so many were not able to make it though.
Maybe things will be a little less hectic for everyone.

Did anyone else get any pics?
I got a few... very few.... with my tardy self

I'm heading over to the photo forum to see if a thread has been started. If no then I will.

OK there was no photo thread, So I started one. Feel free to add any that anyone else may have.
