Default Alberquerque - Balloon Fiesta

Any Orger's in town this weekend for the Balloon Fiesta?

We went tonite and the special shapes balloons couldn't do their night glow so we got gyped this evening

We got a card of the Darth Vader balloon and also see in the program that there is a Marvin the Martian balloon, but couldn't find their spot on the field though. Must get pictures if the wind calms down and they get to inflate.

A few pics from tonite...

We didn't get to see Darth out yet, but we did get to see some of his support team and get a card...sim. to what this little kid is holding up.

I ended up giving away my bunny ears at the end of the evening.
I REALLY want to see the Energizer bunny balloon up close it is really detailed. It was the logo for my frat in college.

I met up with Sue (CiaoBug) who recently moved to Alberquerque from SoCal at her work...a balloon shop and chatted for a bit.

Here are some pics from the Mass Ascension.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

I have been to ABQ a few times specifically to visit friends that used to live in Rio Rancho - went to see the sea of color, I felt just like a kid, I was in awe - of all the colors, all the people and how friendly everyone was - it's a nice place that I hope to visit again someday.

most of my pics are not scanned but one of my favs from when I was there back in the 90's was this sight as I was walking to the field for the afternoon Special Shapes - kind of odd, but that's me

Antoine, did you see any balloon(s) fly the "box effect"? I saw it once - pretty wild to see a HAB take off and land pretty near to their take off point. If I ever win the lottery, I am going to get a pilot's license and learn how to fly - being up there is better than any drug I have ever ingested A former co-worker from a former job always thought the shot was pretty bizarre with the balloons in the background of the small cemetary - I didn't even realize what I had shot until he commented

I still hope to get to take a ride sometime soon around here (as a belated b'day present to myself need a partner in crime to go with and share the experience)

Hope you had a wonderful time Antoine!

Beth

I think I saw that cemetery and thought that was an odd location as well. No, we didn't notice anyone do the box effect, most just took off and landed north over the ridge...none came back down while we were there on the main green.

Unfortunately we haven't gotten to see too many of the special shapes, I believe their ascension was on Thursday and we came in on Friday...and it was too windy for their night glow, damnit!
All made up for it yesterday with the 300-400 balloons that took off yesterday. Hopefully this morning we get a few more guys out there that didn't make it yesterday.

Cool pix Antoine!! My friends Valerie and Gilbert drove down for the fiesta in his Porsche 911. I've been to ABQ a lot (I'm actually wearing a Sandia Crest hoodie now) to visit friends when the dad was the Lobos basketball coach, but I've never made it for the fiesta! I like flying into ABQ because the airport is easy to get around.

I was thinking about the TNBRU last weekend....

Looks like a blast so far, 'toine! Hope you and Pam are having a blast! Is the kiddo with you?

Great shots of the mass ascension! The most I've ever seen at once was like 25. I think you saw a bit more than 25.

Enjoy your time there!

We missed you, Cori!

They said that Mass that day was between 300-500 balloons, one of the largest ever!

This morning was less spectacular.

Aiden stayed at home, but there were tons of little guys his age running around. This was our belated anniversary trip and first trip without Aiden.

Oh yeah...I did find this...

But never saw the "Marvin" Balloon and Darth took off after the first day we were there so we never got to see him inflated.

Here is a link to my weekend of pics...
