Default VW Club of Tulsa car show and Swap Meet, Sep. 19, 2009

We've gone back to our old show site at the Tulsa Marriott Southern Hills at 71st and Lewis. There are 2 New Beetle classes, one being stock and the other modified/custom, and 4 for other water-cooleds. There are also many aircooled VW categories, and we get some really nice rides in those.

We're getting the last details worked out, and I'll get them posted as they become available. I do know that, rather than the engine blow we've had in the past, there will be a group building an aircooled engine throughout the day, and the engine will be given away at the end of the show! Also, for those of you who feel like you just have too many trophies, or maybe you're not even there for one but still want to show off your ride, there is a non-judged class for only $10 ($15 after the 11th of Sept). It doesn't come with a T-shirt, but we thought it would be a good option for some.

I hope you can join us!

I'll be there. I might not be showing Wilson this time because his rear bumper and fenders look like crap. Thanks a lot Conway Collision Center.

I'll be there too. I'm going to be helping with registering the entries as they arrive but I'm also going to try to enter Lily in the stock NB class. Are you entering Paul McCARtney in the modified class, Jacob? I think the wings are a definite modification.

Ooh, this sounds fun! I wish my car was spiffy enough to win something!

Bring it along and join the fun. Win or lose we all plan on having a wonderful time. We can always use another NB in the show.

I'll have to make that trip! By September I'll be living in Norman but I'll for sure come back to Tulsa for this. I feel ashamed a little because my car is completely stock aside from a couple cosmetic mods I've done myself.

No problem with having a stock machine. We will have a stock NB class. Don't be ashamed of your stock Beetle. It's great the way it is. I'll probably leave my car mainly stock until I wear the warranty out.

What makes a car modified? Do they use a points system? I have a bunch of little mods, like decals and Monster Mats. Are those 'real' mods?

This is my first show with the Tulsa VW Club and I don't know the answer to that question but I will go find out. Let me go track down the folks in charge and I'll get that information. I sure would love to see Daisy make the show. I'll be working with the crew registering the cars as they enter. I'll be watching for you.

I just got word from a member of the club who has attended the last 9 VW Club of Tulsa shows and he told me that they do not consider decals or Monster Mats mods. Daisy will be in the Stock class.

Not completely sure of the exact scoring system but I'm sure they use some type points system. I'll try to find out more on that.

I hope you can make it to the show. We can always use more NBs.

I will post show on our site, we are building a new club site so I will make sure this gets posted. As far as I know, I will come and I think Chris and Carrie want to come. So with Cori that 3, Chris and Carrie might bring 2 cars 1 old and 1 new.
So 4 cars total.

What about the spoiler at the top of the glass John? Does that kick you into modified stock? I'm kind of thinking about this.

I just got more word on this subject.

In order to move a car into the "modified/custom" class you need to have made mods on 3 items such as engines, exhaust, carbs, total interior, body changes, etc.

Monster Mats and adding a spoiler will still leave us in the STOCK class.

Scoring will be done on a 0-10 point system for each catagory such as engine, interior, exterior, wheels and tires, glass, etc.

I hope this helps. I have mentioned the interest you all are showing in attending our show and the folks here are really excited to hear the news.

Let me know if you have any more questions or need further clarification.

Great thanks John for answering my questions! However, right now I am leaning towards not going. I don't think it would be wise for me, financially, because I've got 2 credit cards to pay off. I can NOT continue to add to my balance. Plus, I will be moving the end of October and I have to make sure I've got enough for the deposit.

We are always ready to throw together a quick GTG so anytime you can come this way let us know. We'll plan something and make your visit worthwhile.
