Default "Local" places to go in Las Vegas?

Hey, family and I will be out in Las Vegas this Friday,June 20th through next Thursday, June 26th. Then its off to Flagstaff for a few days of Grand Canyon fun-in-the-sun..

Outside of all of the touristy things (Hover Dam, The Stratosphere, MGM, etc..), what would be some fun local things to do in Vegas.

We are staying in the south west section (4200 block of Boulder Hwy - campsite) and have a few evening open.

For you local's, I would greatly appreciate some normal fun things that we could do while out there (Dairy Queens, put-put, neat family owned restaurant, etc..).

Appreciate your suggestions,

TechnoTrix'd...

Hey Rob!

Sure wish I could help you out here.. was just out there a month ago. We spent a little bit of time in Bootleg Canyon Retention Basin. Saw a small train museum there. Near Henderson? Pretty sure Bootleg Canyon is a national park.

A friend of mine and I drove out there. Only took 36 1/2 hours If newscionxb.com wasn't down at the moment, I could give you a link to my take on the trip out and back.

Have a great trip! Hope it's not to hot for ya Play a buck in one of the dolllar slots in the Tropicana for me.. I won $65in there.

Hey Bob, thanks for being a great org member buddy, appreciate the reply.

Kinda sad that the only reply I get is from a person who lives in NJ...

Oh well, family and I are having a great time out here anyway's. Average temps are around 105 or so... Actually not all that bad.

Spent most of the day at Circus Circus on Saturday, road horses in the Red Rock Canyon on Sunday, did lunch at the Stratusphere on Monday (that was a quick $200.00 experience...) and spent the day in and around the Hoover Dam today.

The new by-pass is coming along well, the bridge that will span the Colorado is taking shape now.

Our day included a nice dinner cruise on Lake Mead and a slow drive back along the main park road heading north towards Lake Las Vegas.

Been a wonderful experience for my family, as this is their first trip out to the great southwest. Seen a ton of newbeetles BTW, they appear to be all over the place here.

Hey jazzcat, thanks for the invite!! We are driving into flagstaff tomorrow (Thursday) and have a full day at the Grand Canyon planned for Friday.

Unfortunately, we are flying out of Phoenix on Saturday, around 4pm or so. My plan was to meandor down from Flagstaff on Saturday, as it is about a 2 1/2 hour drive anyway's.

Might take a detour through Sedona and Cottonwood now, just depends on how early I can get everyone ready Saturday morning.

Trip has been great though, as this is my families first exposure to the great Southwest. So far, everyone is really liking it, and would love to stay longer.

Will post-up some more pics when I can.

Oh, and I am driving a rolly-polly Chevy 7 passenger something-something (Uplander??) right now, so no twisties for me on this trip.

Thanks again for the offer this weekend, very much appreciated. Sorry we can't take you guys up on it this time, but hey, if you two make it out east, let me know.

Rob, when we went in 2001, we had a nice river trip down the Colorado river, it was a beautiful turquiose and cold cold cold! We also went horseback riding and enjoyed that as well. In Vegas, I got a dream come true going to the Star Trek Experience! I got to ride on a "shuttle" and get "beamed" onto the bridge of the Enterprise. It was very cool. I am glad you had a great time!!!!
