Unhappy Cancelled - 2009 Pacific Northwest NB.org GTG

Alright, I just got off the phone with Stephen (Evanrude), and this GTG is officially cancelled. I had really hoped it was going to work out, but it looks like the peeps here in the northwest just don't have it in ourselves to give up one day of driving for this lovely community. It especially sucks to see the Mid-westerners have cool, fun GTGs that they travel across several states for, but we can't seem to do this one, despite the fact that this original message was posted in FEBRUARY (giving plenty of time to make plans around this event), and I was willing to drive 4 hours to come hang out with you guys.

I'm really not angry, just really disappointed in myself for being so naive as to assume I could pull something like this off. Even having Stephen do the "grunt work" of PMing, calling and texting people to come hang out wasn't enough.

Alright... so I was waiting for it to be posted by someone... anyone, really, but it hasn't happened yet.

I have decided to spearhead the 2009 PNW GTG. I have a plan lined up in my head for a scenic drive through Rainier Nat'l Forest, but I just saw this today:

Leavenworth Drive brought to you by Northwest European

It's a drive to Leavenworth from Bellevue, and it's for charity. What do you guys and gals think? You wanna get some Bugs together and show the other Euro-drivers what we got?

I would love to join, even though I don't drive a NB anymore, but I think this might be too far away. Isn't this up by Seattle? It's something I will have to think about, but I am glad to see that someone is planning!

FarrisK, I genuinely wish you good luck.

I have planned GTGs for nearly seven years, and the first two or three were good, after that, well.....not so good.

I hand my planning over to you, and I sincerely wish you luck.

Thanks, Deb. This year will be different!

If this Leavenworth drive doesn't work out, there is another one that I have been looking at since I came up to Taco-town on Halloween. It's almost perfectly smack dab between Portland and Seattle... a little town called Morton, which is only about 30 minutes from Rainier Nat'l Park.

I'm thinking to meet in either Elbe or Morton, and drive through Rainier Nat'l Park to the Visitor Center. This will be a *brisk* drive through the mountainside, with LOTS of photo ops (Stephen, aka Evanrude, that means you HAVE to come! )

Once we get to the visitor center, we can hang out, have a bite to eat, maybe go for a walk, then head back home...

...or if someone wants to host a killer party? I know it's been done in years past, but I don't know if anyone will want to host it. Deb? What do you think?

Here's a map, though I can't for the life of me figure out why Gmaps won't let me get directions from Point A to Point 6.

Should come out to ~22 miles, or probably close to half an hour drive, depending on the speed limit/traffic. That'll give us enough time to actually do some stuff and HAVE FUN while at Mt. Rainier.

I would lovelovelove to host a party at my house. I have room inside and out, room for sleepover if needed. I have tried this before.....made appetizers, bought drinks, cleaned like crazy, washed the car, swept the driveway.......and no one showed up. This is when I said "forget it". It was pretty embarrassing, and I cried.

So if anyone is interested in trying this again, talk to FarrisK.

(and, again, good luck to you FarrisK)

I won't set you up for that again, Deb. If it didn't work out in the past(having everyone meet up for a GTG shindig), then it probably still won't. One of the things I've noticed about us PNW-ers is that we don't like to travel too far.

SO ANYWAYS! Let me know guys. Let's get this organized well in advance so there's no interfering with other plans.

Well lets pick a date that works for everyone, and then go from there. For you Deb, I will drive far and wide! So once we have the date set, we can pick where to meet, go, do, etc. We already have 5 people, assuming we can at least get Deb, Stephen, FarrisK, Patrick, and myself! That is an awesome start, and a good fallback if all else fails.

So what say you Deb...will you come? You don't have to organize anything - FarrisK is all over it (which BTW let me know if you want me to help FarrisK). Stephen also said he would help organize too!

Anyone there? Do we have any takers for June 13th, or do we need to reschedule?

I'd love to join, but I won't know for a while if I can make it. As of right now, I am not booked on June 13th, but that may change any day now.

Default Gosh, this always happens to me

I always seem to have something planned when GTGs are planned. My son is graduating from college that day.

And, really, I prefer far longer roadtrips (carabugs) anyway.

I'm going to the last R2K in Roswell later in June (June 25-28) and would love to have someone carabug with me there. It's a real hoot! Any takers?
