There is not a specific club here. But we are a group of friends that love to get together. And, since you live here in the PNW, you are included in our circle of friends! Automatically!

There are numerous Beetle clubs and VW clubs, but no NEW Beetle clubs.

I've been considering joining some of the regular ones, but I didn't like the VW Vortex group, they aren't Beetle friendly.

Being that i'm on the opposite end of the country, I have no dog in the hunt, as us sutherners would say. With the passion you all share, may I encourage you all to start a NB club. It does seem that we always have to be lumped in with the other VW's, which is cool in itself. But start a little something. It sounds like Deb has a good thing going... build on that and see what happens. I'm trying hard here in FL to do the same. I'm pulling for good things to happen for you PNW folks

Another BUMP

I hear ya Farris. It seems like a tuffie trying to get just the beetle people together, apart from just VW's in general. I'm sure if us orgers were all a couple/three hours from each other, we'd have a tight knit group. Sadly a good number of non-org beetle owners don't have the beetleitis like we do. Well, maybe some of them do. Then there's the whole living life and all that goes with it. I guess us orgers are a different kind of cat.

Honestly, I think it's the PNW Orgers. Nothing against my friends in here, but even with 3 months advance notice I was unable to get people together. Add to that the historically poor showing we've had at GTGs in the past in the PNW, and it doesn't look well.

The last GTG we had required someone to fly halfway around the world to bring us together.

Wow, that is discouraging mang. It's been that way around here for a while too. The last GTG in St. Augustine had a great turnout and gives me hope that something will grow. Still I hope joelfolg will have the passion to follow through, drop the hammer and fire up the troops to commit to scheduled dates and show up.

You have no idea how many times I tried to get people interested in a get together. I even started planning for the big annual GTGs 8 or 9 months in advance - so people could clear their calandar of weddings, plane trips, or hair cuts.

I am not averse to planning one, if only there was interest, I would be all over it.

My theory is people don't have the extra $$ right now for a long drive. I know I don't, and I am sure others are the same.

If we start planning right now, maybe a spring or summer 2010 GTG is in order?

I so wish I could be there. But here's a BUMP for you

Deb, your first paragraph sounds like what I've had to deal with here in FL. It can get a little frustrating, especially when you give 8-9 months advance.

Keep bumping the thread guys and PM'ing folk in your area. I have a feeling you all can pull off a great GTG

Why, thank you Al for the bumps and help. I wish you luck, too. At least, you have a New Beetle to take to the GTG....

I would be up for a GTG anywhere between Seattle and Portland.

I work for Microsoft, and if we do a fundraiser type thing, they will match whatever we collect up to $12,000.

I know the SoCal folks do a fundraiser thing. Maybe we could do something similar? Beetles for breast cancer, etc.

I am all in to help. We just need people to be into it!

Thought you'd like that.

I organized that GTG, when there was interest, and lots of NB friends. It was a raging success. Wish we could do it again. But, of the 17, two of those NBs were ours, my now ex husbands and mine.

If the economy brightens up, maybe people can then afford to, and want to, drive. But, not at the moment will it happen.

In hope I say.... don't say it won't ever happen again. I hope that it will be better the next time around. Ya gotta keep hoping, as I hope for you.

It only takes a few people to get the ball rolling. I'm seeing a good neucleus forming on this very thread. Joel I know you're new to the org, but your passion and enthusiasm is what is needed to aid in making this happen; so jump in and help in planning and contacting fellow PNWers. Bump this thread daily to keep it active and find PNW orgers that are here via PM and invite them to this thread.

Y'all might not be trekkies or whatnot, but I'm always reminded of the movie "the undiscovered country". Basically, a lot of turmoil was started in fear of people afraid of change. I see this on the org. NOT TURMOIL, but decreasing org activity from some of the org veterans. We/they want it like the old days on the org, and change (time and events) erodes what once was. If we pine on the past, we'll remain stuck in it and can't forge a better future.

I too miss the old server(s) and the old org, but technology changes, we grow older, so do our cars, but the org is still the org and we must remember that the passion of our cars brought us here (and a little tech help too) and we must cultivate that passion constantly. It's a good key to life as well. The fear and dissapoint change sometimes bring, will rob us of our passion as we pine for the old days. But we must embrace new org members, just as we were when we were newbies long ago, and make them part of the family. For they too, the newbies, have the same passion as some of old-timers do: knowing more about our beetles and meeting up with those who share the same passion.

yes, yes, i know that life happens- that is a given.

Debbie, this is NOT an indictment on you by no means! You have been on of the anchors of the org. Nor am I using my whoopin stick on the org vets. It just is what it is, face value. So as it is with the org.... so as it is with the GTG scene. I've experienced it here in FL, just as you all are in the PNW.

I'm running late for work, so I've gotta get off my soapbox, and leave my beetle preachin for another post. Just know I'm pullin for you guys. Great things will happen! Keep you hope and passion and don't give up!
