Morning Travel to Hearst Castle

1:30 pm Both groups arrive by 1:30 pm for a 2:20 pm TOUR of Hearst Castle

5:00 pm Travel to Group dinner – location TBD

5:30 pm DINNER West End Bar & Grill (774 Main Street, Cambria, CA 93428)


Sunday 2/13
10:00 am Meet for breakfast – location TBD

12:00 – 3:00 pm Wineries TBD

I am going to check around with people I hang out with from the SoCal club and see who wants to join us, I know one person definitely wants to come, will update you on the others

YAY!!!!!!! Can't wait!!!!!

Oh and us SoCal peeps usually stay longer than the actual GTG if anything we could even go to Morro Bay or Pismo Beach (if anyone wants to) and watch the sunset just a suggestion, I like spending as much time as possible at GTG's

Oh and it will take us SoCal peeps 4 1/2 hours to get to Hearst Castle, just fyi according to mapquest

Too bad this event is held on Feb 12th as I will have to work another week before I fly off to L.A.

I'm planning to be there, possibly stay Saturday night at the Madonna Inn (Website). I've driven-by that place a million times and have never found a good reason to stay there!

Staying Saturday night at the Madonna Inn sounds like a great idea.

Ooooh, sounds like fun! Right around Valentine's Day, I'll have to double check with my other half first. I really like this idea.

Here are two options for anyone who wants to spend Saturday night in the Hearst Castle area.

OPTION 1: Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo – Judee said she may book here. Rates are approx $180 +

OPTION 2: Cambria Landing Inn and Suites in Cambria. Rates are approx $120 + (this hotel is RIGHT on the beach)

I will probably book “Cambria Landing Inn” hotel for Saturday night. From this hotel to Hearst castle it is approx 14 miles. Who knows I might skip the castle tour and just relax on the beach Sat & Sunday depending on who goes and what we want to do…

If anyone plans to go, I recommend booking hotel ASAP since it’s Valentines weekend and the rates and bookings may go up or sell out 

I plan on going as well as a few SoCal beetle club people, I would love to stay the night but that is very expensive for me right now

Who all from LA/SoCal is planning to come?
Looking forward to it...Do you guys prefer to tour Hearst Castle or just hang out at beach, etc? I am OK with either plan.

I would love to stay the night, I just wish it wasn't so expensive or if I could share a room with someone that would work

I am fine with hanging out at the beach or touring Hearst Castle, I've done one of the tours 6 years ago, it just takes a long time

I will probably stay at the Avila La Fonda Hotel (Avila Beach Hotels - Hotel on Avila Beach CA - Avila La Fonda Hotel) because a good family friend co-owns the property.

I've never been to the castle, so that's what I'll probably do.

This will be a lot of fun!!

I checked the link you posted, for February 12th there is a 2 night minimum that you have to stay for

I also checked the Quality Inn in San Simeon and it is $80 for February 12th, I will most likely do that

I updated the roll call on the first post of this thread. I am waiting to book hotel until I know where you all plan to stay so hopefully we can at least have a few of us together at one hotel. Please post up once you make a hotel decision so we can continue to book hotels, etc and plan. Or if you plan to just join us for the day (no hotel) that is fine too!
