Bought a 99 and after a week of sloppy shifting I lifted the boot to find this....A cracked assembly. So what are my options ? Can I use a later mechanism? Is the exhaust in the way? tks Bart

There was someone; who took a piece of aluminium, cut it to reinforce the circumference of the mount, the mounting points and it worked for them. Basically, a DIY reinforcement plate to make it more secure and fix the issue permanently.I can't seem to find the thread right now but it worked for them. Definitely, easier; then having to replace the whole assembly.
Wow, so this isn't just me then, I thought I bought something that Herman Munster drove ( remember how he didn't know his own strength ) It looks like it wants to push through the floor ! I have a '00 for parts outside and may convert it over, but a spacer may be needed till I get the other one out
Ok , last night I made a 1/8 aluminum spacer for the broken end and used two oversized washers under the other nuts. It shifts like normal now. I plan on doing the swap , but now it is at my convienience.
Here is the repair, I prob should make the forward repair the same way with a rectangular spacer that has two holes, tks VW for the long studs here. I could have made a better spacer than this turned out but it works and it was late in the day LOL
